I think your initial reaction was fine, but then you both took it to another level. I'm guessing her kid has no part in picking out Father's day gifts. Besides, who is this chick anyway?!

Given the tone of the post, it was a weird suggestion and your initial comment was fine. Then I agree with bibs that things got weird fast.

First comment was not an overreaction- just correcting her that the gift was from A, not from you. Then it got out of control and you both overreacted.
