Emily is awesome :-P Ok, for real, I think it is regional. I hear it not at all where I live, even though it's popular nation-wide. Is it actually popular where you live?
Well obviously I love the name Emily. I was a little hesitant about it because of the popularity (and back in 2007 it was still #1) but I have yet to meet another young Emily.
I also like Amelia, Ella, and Ellie. Emma is obviously similar but just as popular, I think.
eta: Emmy is our nickname for our Emily. JLo used Emme. Aside from Emmeline, I've also seen Emerson as another "Em" name.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
If you like it, go for it. It is classic and popular now. But it isn't a trendy name you are going for just because of that.
Our second daughter was going to be either what we named her, Emily or Amelia/Mia. Including her name, all three were popular as far as name lists go. Molly was also on our list. But DD1 has an M name (named after a family member) as well as us, so we went with something other than an M name.
But names are regional as pp mentioned, and I don't personally know any other kids with either of my daughters' names.
Love Emily! I don't think it's too popular, at least not around here. I can't think of anyone in my kids classes the last couple years with that name. Emmilyn, Amelia.
I also like Emily, I think it's a classic. Laura, Natalie, Anna, Eva. When we were ttc, we had decided on Bea for a girl, pronounced Bay Uh, it's a Latin name we both really liked.
Yay that is my name! I am from Europe and in the U.S. most people pronounce it wrong though because it reads as Bee. Btw you should see the spelling of my name on Starbucks cups it's hilarious (Bella, Bayah etc).
I love the name Emily, and considered it for my daughter in 2005. At that time it was very popular, so we found something else we loved more. Now I know several girls my daughter's age named Emily, but I think its popularity has decreased a little since then. It seems (based on nothing) that more people are naming their kids Emma lately.
As a side note, I have an 18-year-old cousin named Harper, named after Harper Lee. I didn't realize her name was a "thing" now! LOL
