I really hope this is not true but I have long suspected that it is. I know he's known for being a dick but his story is pretty damn inspirational and he's a champion at what he does. I know he's been an inspiration for a lot of people and now he will be known as a cheater. I hate this.

Ditt-O. Naive as it may sound, I really want to believe that he is simply an anomaly among humans and truly a super athlete.
I remember watching a Discovery Channel special on him and it showed him hooked up to various machines to test his various bodily functions while rising a stationary bike. They were discussing data allegedly showing that his body simply processes oxygen more efficiently than most and I was really trying to buy it.

Ditto. I saw this too and it was extremely interesting. Totally made me believe he was just a super athelete.
I am on my phone but Lance Armstrong is getting charged with doping and has been banned from sporting immediately
Just to clarify: Lance Armstrong has been banned from participating in sports competitions, specifically triathlons, until the charges are resolved. It's not permanent. These are just charges and he still has to be ruled in violation of anti-doping rules.

This can be true.. I dated a guy in college who was a competitive cyclist and went through the same kind of testing and he had a very high lung capacity as well..its insane the tools they have to test that stuff and how much it varies from person to person; but after reading Armstongs book I had my suspicions about doping. He just came off as a jerk and its some thing I couldn't say "no, he's better than that".

And also: pg ladies and the increased blood/lung volume thing. Don't you retain that for some period PP, and some of the best times by women are either when they are newly pg (and may not know it) or PP.
I watched a clip on espn.com and they said it's the same evidence from the Justice Department investigation that they didn't end up pursuing? But it's the USADA pursuing it this time?
It also said the evidence was testimony from witnesses, mostly, along w/ claims that his blood results in 2009-2010 show evidence of doping? It honestly seemed kind of... thin, as far as evidence goes, I guess. I'm not saying he didn't - I really have no idea - but if the majority of the evidence is witness testimony going back to the 90s? I'm kind of skeptical.
I honestly don't think he was doping for all of his wins. The French were way too suspicious of him - the man went through constant tests leading up to the Tour de France. They would have announced it to the world if there was even a trace of drugs in his system... either he's really super good at hiding it, or he wasn't doing it.

This is also why I'm a bit skeptical. Initially, I thought it was going to be about whatever he is currently doing (triathlons, I think) and he'd tested positive, or whatever.
I guess I find it hard to believe that he wasn't under intense scrutiny when he was winning all those Tour De France's, and wouldn't have been caught then. Especially after like the 3rd/4th one, kwim?
But I also know my understanding of doping is pretty limited, so maybe I am just dumb and you can totally get away with it.
I don't doubt that he could have doped. I do feel that if Lance was doping, so was most of his team. So were most of the teams. I think doping is probably wide spread enough that it's hard to investigate and prosecute every athlete who does it. I think Lance Armstrong is a big name with huge recognition and if the USADA can snag him, they'll have a poster child for what not to do (i.e. no athlete is too big to bring down.)
I really want to believe he didn't dope. I just can't reconcile how he could have passed the doping scrutiny seven different times and not gotten busted. He said in the CNN article he passed 500 drug tests? I would think that if he was doping at some point he would have slipped up and failed one. Wouldn't the odds be against him?
Then again, I've never doped, so I am 100% ignorant of anything involved in doping.
This is how I feel about it: "So if he gets his titles removed, who is declared the winner? The person who finished in second that was also doping?” (from comments of one of the articles I was reading).
I don't like Lance Armstrong. Weird, huh. I just..he gives me skeeve vibes
Agreed 100%. I'm torn on this whole thing though-part of me wants the charges to be a load of BS because even though I'm not a fan of his, his story is so inspirational to so many. But on the other hand, part of me thinks the USADA wouldn't have brought this up AGAIN (after he's been cleared every other time) if they didn't have some sort of solid evidence to back the charges up. Either way, I'm curious to see how this all plays out.
I am a bit confused as to what evidence can be "new". They can't take him back in a time machine and have him pee again. They have tested his A, B, C and D samples. I just don't see it sticking unless he has a credit card recipt from Performance Enhancing Drugs R Us.
These guys are under scrutiny 100% of the time that they compete, not just during the competition. You have to notify WADA/USADA of where you are training and when. You have 24 hours to respond to a request for a sample. When these nut jobs are banging down your dorm room door at 5am on a Friday after a night out, you understand that you cannot run nor hide from them. It's good morning, please pee. Or hello, hope you had a good practice, please pee. Whenever they want you to, you do it. I can't believe in all of those tests there wasn't one slip up on his part.
If he cheated, he was really good at it. Should the best cheater win? No, but that may be what happened.
