Shameful confession: My new underwire bras bruised my ribs because it had been so long since I had worn an underwire bra Nursing for over a year, and only wearing stretchy bras to cover my ever growing rack during pregnancy- it was way too long to go without wearing a "real" bra.
I got the same measurement w/o a bra as with my old bra. That was interesting. I can't measure myself unless I'm in front of a mirror to make sure the tape is even all the way around - and to read the tape.
I wish I had heard that info when I was 18 or so. I wore he wrong sized bra until I was 25. They didn't sell my size in normal shops so I never stumbled upon it. And because I've never been weirdly busty, it didn't occur to me that I needed anything else.
I still don't understand why department stores don't carry more variety of sizes and show women how to fit. I feel like if someone mainstream would have carried the 30F I needed at age 21 I would have been a customer for life.
I have a very weird-shaped ribcage, possibly as a result of my open heart surgery, that has made it absolutely impossible to find a bra that fits and is comfortable. I need the support of an underwire, but they inevitably sit painfully on my left side. I've even tried on the $100+ bras, out of desperation, and those don't work either. Proper bra fitting seems to be that 90% of the support comes from the band, but this is so painful for me, plus it's extremely unflattering on my not-fat-free back and sides.

I went to Nordstrom for a fitting tonight, since I needed to get swim diapers for DS, and there's a BRU next to the mall. I was wearing the wrong band size, the wrong cup size . . . after trying on a few in the right size, putting my old bra back on to go home felt really weird.

What size did you think you were, and what size are you supposed to be?! I get fitted there every time I have a baby or stop nursing, and it's sooooo nice to have a properly fitting bra! I wear a 32H and my favorite brands are Anita and Panache, and I love the Fantasie strapless bra, holds the girls up high!

I was wearing a 36B, and I should be wearing a 32D.

Crazy huh. I know they are expensive, but honestly, they are very worth the money. It's hard to find cute bras with large cups on a 32, check out the brands above, also once you know how the brands fit you, look at Nordstrom Rack for your sizes. Good luck!
