SICK! We have a patient who has either iritius or uvitius. His pressures are insanely high and his vision is horrible out of that eye. He blew off his follow up appointment with us yesterday after the ER told him he MUST follow up, so he could work on his car. Which was more "important" than his vision. He came in today and Dr. used a dilation drop on him to reduce symptoms until he got to the Ophthalmologist office and then the jerk didn't show up. His excuses this time was he needed to get money. UGH!!!! He is so rude and uses huge words for someone who works in a pizza joint. He tried to come off all high and mighty. He thinks he knows better than the doctor as to what is going on with his eye. I'm so annoyed right now. So annoyed.

Don't DD. I hate patients like that in general. They come to the office to get the exact treatment they read about on WebMD since they diagnosed themselves. I asked them why they wasted their specialist co-pay to come see me. They know their diagnosis and treatment, they can go figure out how to treat it themselves too.

Oh I know! We had one the other day, " All you do is make me get glasses, you don't fix anything! Let me have Lasik, my friend had it. It fixed his eyes!!!!" Well first off Lasik is about $5000 and if you have it to correct your vision for distance and your over 40 your near is going to be awful. And if you correct for near you won't be able to see far away! People are crazy!!!!
Don't even get me started...it would take all night and I have to go to bed because I work 24 hours tomorrow and half of it is with the biggest turd/creeper on the planet but, please add patient families that think they can do my job better than I can.
Wait, there's a time limit on lasik? I didn't know that. I've always thought maybe, someday, but I don't have forever to think about it?
Time limit no but there are things to think about and consider. If you do it when you are over 40 its a good idea to think about doing Monovision where one eye is treated for distance and one for near. If you do it just for distance keep in mind that you eventually will need reading glasses for up-close work.
Its just the people who come in that have done no research on it that insist that it will make everything PERFECT NOW.
I figure I'll eventually need correction for close vision. Doesn't everyone if they live long enough?
But, having worn glasses since I was 6, it just feels so normal to not see that I don't think about it until they ask me at my annual appointment.
Generally around age 40 you start to loose your ability to accommodate, meaning you start feeling like your arms are too short! As long as you go in expecting to need reading glasses at some point it shouldn't be a problem.
I've worn glasses since I was 10 and I totally agree not seeing has become part of me and I don't really know if I'll ever want to do Lasik.
Also just keep in mind dry eyes are a huge side effect, some people it goes way in a few years others it last forever. Also people tend to have more glare problems at night after having Lasik.
Also do your research on surgeons and go to a few consultations before deciding who you want to go with.
