I made the little trap thing with the cone of paper and put a little bit of wine in the bottom of a glass. I caught a ton of the little bastards, but they're all just buzzing around in the glass. I thought that after a couple of days they would drown in the wine, which isn't the worst way to go out, IMO.
Do I just wait for them to drown? Do I take it outside and set them free? I'd really rather kill them, TBH.
I always make traps with little mason jars. I poke small holes in the lid so the little bastards can fly in. Then, I pour a little apple cider vinegar, a few drops of dish soap, and a bit of water, and swirl it to mix. I put the traps in a sunny spot and it seems to attract them.

A biology prof where I used to work swore by putting something sweet or some wine or whatever on a tray in the oven overnight, leaving the oven door open. Then, in the morning, close the door and crank the oven up to 350. They will all die and drop in the tray.
I've never tried this, but she said with all of the research and crap they used them for, they were a pretty common problem, lol.
That doesn't answer your question, though. I just thought I'd be random.

Hmmm. I wonder if it would make the house stink? I'm willing to try anything. I hate these things.
I put Apple Cider Vinegar in a dish or bowl and add about 2 drops of dishsoap. Then I cover the bowl with saran wrap and cut slits/holes in it.
I was told that adding the dish soap breaks the viscosity so that the flies drown in the ACV, rather than just being about to walk on the surface of it. I guess that could be the same case with wine? Are there any actual science people around? Because I am not one.

I've done this with ACV, beer, and wine. The dish soap is key. You might get a couple of FF that hover near the top, but most will end up as floaters.
