I really enjoyed Hunger Games' sequel. I couldn't put it down, I had to find out what was going to happen next! I read it in a day. I'm never a huge fan of the love triangle thing though. Peeta or Gale? I don't love Peeta, but yet when I kiss him, I feel something! I feel stupid saying this...but team Peeta! Yep...I just said that...
And now I'm on the hold list at the library for Mockingjay. Looking forward to getting it!
I loved how Catching Fire played out. The whole first half I was thinking that it needed another hunger games and the bam she's back in. Loved it. Honestly the love triangle never really felt real to me and just wasnt very well written. I kind of wish that had been left out entirely. Katniss just never felt like a character who could have fallen in love at any point in this series.
DH had read the series first, and when I sat down to read Catching Fire I said to him "Please just let this stupid love triangle stop being such a big part of the book." He just shook his head at me.
To be honest, it wasn't until I re-read the whole series a second time that I started to see why the love triangle might be important for Katniss' character development and other parts of the story. I still think it was somewhat trite/overdone, but not so much and it doesn't detract from the story for me anymore.
DH and I listened to it while driving on vacation a couple of weeks ago-- a re-"read" for me. I agree that the love triangle isn't the strength of the series. I'm completely Team Peeta, though.
DH had a hard time with some of those passages, LOL. I got a lot of laughs out of the random comments he would yell. According to DH's "interpretation," Peeta has a lot of internalized rage against Gale and also a much dirtier mind than I would credit any of the characters with.
