Yep. Two girls just drove by and shoved 12 plastic pink flamingos in my yard...
When asked what it was for, they told me Relay for Life. Now, I'm all for supporting Relay for Life. My aunt is in her third round with breast cancer. So I just let them do it. But... it has me wondering why my yard was the only one of the street that got flamingoed. Did I sign up for something that I don't remember? I mean, I tend to donate toward breast cancer-related charities so it's possible. I will totally snap a picture of this in the morning.
When I was in high school, my friends and I spent an entire summer entrenched in a toilet paper war. Somehow, we decided to come up with a name for ourselves as a calling card - The Pink Flamingos. I get excited for the days when we own our own houses and can pink flamingo each others' lawns.
I think other people pay to have your yard flamingoed
This, probably. Something just like that happened in my area. People would pay to have a yard "flocked". The person whose yard got the flamingoes was encouraged to pay it forward, and donate to have someone else's yard done.
My neighbors were flamingoed last year. Someone else paid to have it done as a "surprise" for a fundraiser. I rather enjoyed the ones where my bosses were "jailed" for fundraising; they had to raise bail money for the charity. It's the only time I'd pay for certain ones to get out of jail; most of them I'd rather have kept in. (They were lawyers so imagine the fun we and those who worked for the courts and police departments had.)
We did that this spring. Our friend was doing the fundraiser and flocked our yard as DH's birthday gift. We then flocked BIL hoping he and SIL would flock friends, but they didn't pay it forward.
Our friend was really good about putting up signs to let you know what is was for, who flocked you, how to flock someone, etc.
Yes, it was from one of my friends, but there's no option on the sheet explaining it to pass it on. They just say that the flamingos will move to their next location this evening. I did get a picture of it, but my camera's being an ass and not working right now.
