I wanted to share the before and after pics of our deck project, which is mostly completed.
Before (over exposed pic):
Mostly finished after:
We kept the original structure to save money and beefed it up with 6x6's, post caps, and we reinforced the posts in the ground. We also added stair and post lights.
We also added a pitched ceiling under the deck with ceiling fans to create shade for our west facing backyard.
Still left to do is to add pavers under the deck and a gutter tied into the French drain.
Wow, that looks fantastic! Perfect for entertaining. What's that shelving unit by the loveseat?
Thank you! It's a bakers rack that was given to me a long time ago. I have always used it on a covered porch as more of a place to display plants and things.

Tell me more about the roof you put under the deck. We have a deck like that with a walkout basement, and I would love to do something like that, so that we could sit under there if it is rainy out.

We looked into DryJoist and several other products but they were thousands of dollars. Basically it is a galvanized metal (special ordered in white) pitched to allow the rain to run off. Our contractor got it from HD and it was only a few hundred dollars. Like I said we are having a gutter put in and tied into our French drain but even without it it works great! I would definitely do it and it's totally DIY-able
