My daughter has had several. The first was when she was around 2, and she was squatting and grabbing at herself like you described. Then she said "potty, ow", and I knew it was time to go in. I'd take her in now, since they usually have to send the sample to be cultured and it can take a day to get the antibiotics.
My daughter went through a spree of them. It was ridiculous.
Basically she would start wetting the bed every night, having accidents and crying at everything. She would never say it hurt to pee or that she didn't feel good, but she would want to sleep more than normal.

I don't know your feelings on juice, as it is apparently a touchy subject, but if you can find nsa cranberry grape juice, you might try giving her some of that. I don't know exactly how it works but when I've had UTI's in the past, I felt better drinking the juice (and taking the antibiotics).

Ugh. DD has had so many of these. Her only symptom is usually lethargy and a fever now. She doesn't have any urinary signs, which is super frustrating.
It's a pretty easy diagnosis. We just usually go to the urgent care, she pees in a cup, and boom. Antibiotics and lots of fluids. :-)
I'd take her in to be safe. I'm not sure how old she is, but my DD sometimes has right side or lower back pain with them. Hope she feels better!
She ran fever and complained that it hurt when she went. Her urine also smelled stronger than normal (she was PTing at the time) when she would have accidents.
Oh if she can't pee in a cup, they will have to get it via tube insert which is a little traumatic for you to watch, but take her in. Our MD didn't catch it soon enough once and DD had to get X-rays for enlarged kidney.
When we went my Dr. put like a catch thing over her crotch area and put her diaper back on. it didn't bother her one bit. I was so relieved they did not do it the other way.
the bean had one about a year ago (so she was 4). she said it hurt when she went pee, and it smelled a little like mine does when i get one. she thought it was hilarious to pee in the cup, and they gave her meds. it was gone pretty quickly.
