1. it's a trilogy, so it's supposed to leave you wanting more. SPOILER: there are games the next year.
2. it's a trilogy, so her feelings for peeta are explored further. because the casting for peeta was AWFUL (he's too short and not cute), the sexual tension is not nearly as potent in the movie as it was in the book, which amped up the "do they or don't they?" intrigue while reading.
ETA: can i just say again how much i hate that someone thought that casting that ankle-biting little ratface as peeta was a good idea? it RUINED the movie for me. i mean, they get woody harrelson as hameitch (?SP) and lenny kravitz as, um, that guy, and they are PERFECTION. then they go all "oh yeah, major character. part of a love triangle. key player in all three books. um, how about, uh, that little dude over there who is also not that good at acting?" wtf. wtf. wtf. i hate the casting director with every fiber of my being.
Those questions are all answered in the next two books. I haven't seen the movie, but I loved the books. They're very detailed. You should definitely give them a try

Ditto cville 100%. Movie Peeta is the worst. I also think the movie suffers a lot by losing Katniss' thoughts. Since the book is in first person, you're constantly inside her head and seeing her motivation for each action. The movie just does not do a good job of showing you why she's doing the things she does.
The books are a super fast read and will fill in all the gaps. Just try to reimagine Peeta in your head and don't picture him as he was in the movie. It's so hard.
I have to add too that I think the 1st book went into much more detail about their lives in the district. I think the movie did a good job of giving you enough that you can get the overall concept, but the book went into a lot more detail.
And while I didn't hate movie Peeta - it was a bad casting call. He wasn't at ALL what I had envisioned.

I agree. In what universe does ANYONE pick that dude over the guy that was cast as Gale? Nope, nope, nope.
I had to remember in watching the movie that the pictures in my head of what people looked like are sort of "out," if you will. In my head, the guy that played Heymitch was older, but that really does not make sense, because he would have been no older than his mid 40s.
Also, while I loved Jennifer Lawrence, the book kept mentioning how scrappy and wiry Katniss was, and JLaw is just not. But she did a fabulous job, and was still the right actor for the role, she just didn't look like the Katniss in my head, you know?
Now I need to go re-read book two before the second movie comes out :-)

But you also gain other POV like behind the scenes of the games. The one thing the movie did a better job of was explains why certain game decisions were made since we could see those conversations.

here are some better suggestions. they're not perfect, but, hell, i would've been a better peeta than that guy.
Speaking of bad casting, do NOT even get me started on how they cast Finnick for the second movie. THAT IS NOT FINNICK.
Who is it?
I watched the movie before I saw the book and I felt like I had missed so many details. There were a lot of things I was confused by that the book cleared up.

I didn't think Peeta was that bad (hides)
He's not supposed to be hot, he's supposed to be the boy she didn't notice. He's sort of a weak character anyway, what with getting hurt and in trouble all the time. It will be interesting to see how he does in Mockingjay.

However, this is also partially what made the third book insufferable IMO. Enough of Catniss and her stupid thoughts!
