Ditto cville 100%. Movie Peeta is the worst. I also think the movie suffers a lot by losing Katniss' thoughts. Since the book is in first person, you're constantly inside her head and seeing her motivation for each action. The movie just does not do a good job of showing you why she's doing the things she does.
However, this is also partially what made the third book insufferable IMO. Enough of Catniss and her stupid thoughts!
Yup. The third book was 95% brooding with some horribly rushed action thrown in at the end. It was nowhere near as good as the other two.
He's not supposed to be hot, he's supposed to be the boy she didn't notice. He's sort of a weak character anyway, what with getting hurt and in trouble all the time. It will be interesting to see how he does in Mockingjay.
I agree he wasn't necessarily supposed to be hot (though to be fair Katniss wouldn't have noticed if he was) BUT he is supposed to be physically imposing and strong and not a midget. And he's supposed to be cunning behind the supposed weakness. Movie Peeta just wasn't up to scratch.

The second book was much better. The action, the plot layers, everything.
The one thing that has intrigued me in the third book has been Gale's character development - it's not completely unexpected, just interesting
Mockingjay has been one of the few books that I got really in to at the start and then once the sloppy action sequences started I lost interest. I'm on the last chapter, but I'm kind of pushing myself to finish.
SPOILER BELOW!!!!
It will be interesting to see how far they go (if at all) with Katniss' disfiguration in the Mockingjay movie
We would have fought over all the same guys in high school.
Actually, that's a lie. I would have just admired from afar and you would have had your pick. lol.
hahahah. you have not seen me in high school. we would've been hiding in the corner together, hoping we didn't get tripped on by the sexy boys who didn't notice us.
Look at the picture at right. Love triangle....I think not.
It never really hit me in the movie how short Peeta was, cuz damn! He's got a Napoleon movie in his future But I think he had the right face for the character. Peeta's the sensitive, artistic type. It kinda works
As an aside, JLaw looks like she's posing with her brothers
The books, as is usually the case, was a lot more rich in detail. But the movie lets you go places Katniss couldn't...like with haymitch and the game makers, which I loved.
I think the biggest flaw in the movie, besides the casting that has been mentioned, is that there was no development of K and P relationship in the cave. They hung out for a day while peeta was sick, then he got better and that's it.

Seriously! That annoyed me so much! And where was the tension? They weren't really afraid of capture that much in the movie and the description of Katniss's paranoia over sounds and defenses really grabbed me in the book. Oh, the berry sharing after the cornucopia really annoyed me too. It wasn't frantic enough. I cried reading that part and hardly felt anything watching the movie. I did, however, love Haymitch, Cinna, Effie and Rue. Those characters were all spot on.
I think I'm one of the only people who actually 'liked' the third book. And by like I mean I felt like I had PTSD days after reading it.
I knew Peeta was short, but didn't realize how short! Wow, JLaw doesn't seem to like either of them from that photo.
I'm really looking forward to Catching Fire so see how it compares to the first movie. I hated Mockingjay so I don't know if I'll see the 3rd one or not.
Woody Harrelson as Haymitch and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna are perfect. Finnick is not! He looks way too skinny. Age wise he is ok, but they needed to pick someone much stronger/muscular
I think that Mockingjay will be a way better movie than it was a book. Less thinking, more time put into the action sequences, and more POVs outside of Katniss', which was obviously flawed and super biased.

I agree! If Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson actually have any chemistry, there was barely any time devoted to it in the movie compared to the book. I'm reserving final judgment on Josh Hutcherson until after I see Catching Fire. There are several sweet K/P moments from that book, which I'm hoping this new director can showcase that a little better. That being said, I'm trying to keep my expectations a little lower.

Good point, you can't really skirt around their relationship in the second book

The guy that played Gale-- that's how I pictured Peeta. Am I alone in this? I think josh huchersomething is cute-ish, but he was totally the wrong Peeta.
I'm still super excited for the second movie, though!
I hate that the Games felt so quick in the movie. In the books, she was in the arena for at least 2 weeks (closer to 3 though, I think). And I felt like everything in the movie arena came so easily to her.
Yeah, they skipped past the whole dehydrated almost to the point of death before she finally stumbles across a stream bit.

Not alone! The dude that played Gale is Liam Hemsworth. That's who I've been talking about. lol
