I've been thinking a lot about Bob. He must be important, right? Why would they introduce him so late in the game? I feel like he's going to be really evil or something. I don't want Joan to get hurt!
I just don't know. They made him out to be such a major character and I can't figure it out.
Did they ever address what happened with Joan and Ponds? Did that guy ever call?
It was Avon, and according to an interview with Matthew Weiner, Joan landed the account. Apparently the audience was just supposed to infer that? He is maddening sometimes.
You're right, it was Avon. I've been watching old ones where they were working on Ponds.

Avon DID call Joan, but it wasn't in the show. I think he's just gay. He's introduced a ton of conflict and helped move plots along, as well as brought the Dick Whitman/Don Draper figure back, and a ton of story this season has reflected the "You are who you are, and you can't escape yourself" philosophy, so I think he's supposed to mirror it.

I read an interview with Matt Weiner saying that Joan did get the Avon account, apparently there wasn't enough time for a scene to let us know that Pete is ALSO going to California with Ted, and that they don't even know if Bob will be back next season because he's on some other show.

On slate.com, there is an article that discusses the Vietnam war and how it symbolically fit in with this season and it was pretty interesting (although I don't necessarily buy all of it). Joan was kind of a snooze to me this season.
It was good (we finally watched it last night). I was annoyed with Ted and waffling with Peggy. Also, between the color of her hair and the style, Peggy just looks like ass.
I also predict that Don will head out to CA and start his own ad shop.

What? She looked AH-MAY-ZING. I was like "look at her, she came such a long way from her pony tail in the first season"

I thought Peggy looked great, too. In general, the female characters got so little screen time this year. I would have preferred much more Joan, Trudy, and even Betty. But less Megan.
So does everyone think Bob purposely drew attention to the fact that Pete couldn't drive a stick shift?

Oh yes, Bob definitely did that intentionally. He's evil, I tell ya! But Pete sucks so I loved that.

I don't think the dark hair looks that great on her. I like her character, but I have seen pictures of Elizabeth Moss with blond hair and think it suits her better. I'm not picking on Peggy! lol
And, she did look fantastic in that little black dress. Yowza
I don't know, I can never really be sure with Bob. Like, why would he come out to Pete, since that *never* happened back then? Was he trying to mess with Pete's mind? Or was he actually being sincere?
Lol, I didn't know it was so obvious. Bob has always been a suspiciously genial character, but this is the first outright malicious thing he's done. Unless he really did introduce Pete to Manolo knowing Manolo was a grifter. I still don't think the writers have shown their hand with Bob.
I wonder if he will have any part in Stonewall next year?
