Ha, thanks for the tag!
And, by wing it, I mean draw up your own plan! Although, your admirers are making me think maybe you did just take your drill and lumber and got to it!
I'll go further and declare her thoughtful kindness by saying that she was happy to help me with a project that I saw on pinterest? a blog? somewhere that was essentially a small coffee table like table, and she managed to fake enthusiasm so well, to the extent that we were going to spend a weekend together and build the table (She would loan me her intellectual capital and tools and space).
Then DH reminded me how horizontal surfaces ALWAYS just lead to added clutter. Which is sadly true. I had guests over last week and I brought in a little side table that I have and keep in the basement, and it hasn't been returned to the basement (it's temporarily sitting in the middle of the sun porch that we have next to the kitchen). And, in accordance to the prophecy, it's filled with magazines, target bags, my bag, sunglasses, shoes, junk. It's so easy, you come in, there's a horizontal surface, let's put shit on it. YAY!!
So I guess the table is a no go. It was good while it lasted.
I wonder if she knows how to build custom made frames. That shit is inordinately expensive. WHYYYYYY!!! Framing man. Framing.

LOL, yes! Except I have a toddler that does this! He has his own little play table, but noooo, every backhoe, excavator and front end loader have to be on my coffee table!
And I should PIP the one attempt ever made at diy custom framing. It is baaaad, but in 11 years, I still don't have the fortitude to fix it.
My MIL is an artist, and she frames all her art. Whyyyyyy in the hell does she have to live in NC?
Admittedly, I still have sticker shock from the first non michaels/ikea/target frame we bought (custom framed a $100 lithograph).
Final cost of framing? $375.
Yeah
That anti glare uv protected special paper whatever the fuck things DH kept agreeing to better work. To be honest, I was more annoyed that he kept saying "oh yeah, I know what that is, we totally need that" rinse repeat, because, you kmkw, he's the son of an artist, and he knows all that stuff and he's helped carry eeons of boxes full of whatever.
Except I didn't really care if it faded a bit vs never.

Thanks! Looking at the plan briefly, did you follow it completely? The seat boards are 2-2x4s with a .5" spacing in between. Was 7.5" wide enough for a seat? In some of the pics it seems narrow, but maybe I'm used to fat-bottomed kids or something. I guess I could tinker with it a bit and use 2x6s instead (11.5" wide)?

It's plenty big enough for little kids. I can even sit comfortably on it.
