mekiakoo is SO NICE, and I had such a great time getting to know her! I would write a lot more about her awesomeness, but I am running out the door so we can finally close on the house we're selling. But I can confirm that she is just as sweet and funny IRL!!
mekiakoo, what is the type of sign language where you are going more on how the words sound? I am probably not phrasing that correctly, but they use both forms in the preschool program at C's school.

That's probably cued speech. It's mostly hand shapes moving between the chin/mouth area and the chest area. I have few friends who grew up using that in school, it helps them with the sounds. They say its very confusing though and they can't really use it to communicate with other people. Almost nobody communicates using this method outside of school.
That's it! Some of the kids have hearing aids and others have cochlear implants. C sometimes does random signs and I have no idea what they mean.

Oh I have no idea what their signs are either! I found this chart and I still don't really understand:
I love that Oh Vey made the chart. lol
I think she does regular ASL stuff at home, but I could be wrong. The teacher who does ASL with her students is one that they regularly get together with for projects and stuff.
this is probably a stupid question as usual but how did you guys talk? did emilie already know ASL?
i want to meet tucker. lol
EmilieMadison actually knew few signs. She immediately fingerspelled her kids' names and I was impressed. She says she learned some baby signs a while ago.
She brought a laptop with so we typed back and forth (faster than writing!). But towards to the end, I was able to sign in ASL and she understood a lot! I also can read lips most of the time so that helped too. She's just a fast learner
ETA: Tucker didn't come with lol. But I will bring him if you and I ever meet!

Maybe this is what I saw a kid doing once. I was subbing in a SPED classroom and a kid was going through phonogram cards with the teacher, but he was making a hand gesture for each one along with saying the sound and a memory phrase to describe the phonogram (like e the double e always says e).

mekiakoo is a good teacher! I was actually surprised how easily we were able to have a conversation. We did use the laptop to type, but she's right, towards the end, she just mostly signed in ASL and then she was able to read my lips in conjunction with my bumbling signs It was pretty easy to "talk" to her.
And I later realized that I signed "coffee" a few times, but have no idea if I was actually using the ASL sign, of if I was just making something up LOL!
