Anyone see Behind the Candelabra on HBO? Thoughts? I watched it two nights ago and thought the performances were great. Rob Lowe as the surgeon really cracked me up.
I watched it this weekend. I liked it. I thought Michael Douglas did a great job too!
I was reading reviews of the book it's based on. Some people who wrote claimed to have known Liberace or people in his circle and they said the book and the movie were both generous to Liberace. That he could actually be really cruel to Scott at times. Who knows. But I thought it was intersesting.
I still love the reaction of "Scott" when Bob (I think that was his name) told him that no one knows Liberace is gay. It was subtle but yet hysterical.

Yes, I watched this movie and I thought it was really good. It was much better than I expected. Michael Douglas and Matt Damon were great in it. Rob Lowe cracked me up too as the surgeon.

I loved Rob Lowe as the surgeon! ECB - wasn't the book written by Scott? It would seem weird if he was overly generous, but maybe he still loved him or something? I thought he Liberace was kind of cruel to Scott in the movie (I mean who asks someone to get plastic surgery to look like them! And who agrees???).
I really can't believe that nobody knew he was gay. It is sad that he had to keep it so secret.

I thought Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, and Rob Lowe were all excellent. However, I just can't look at Matt Damon the same way after watching it. Michael Douglas was eerily spot on.

Oh, and to add- while he was somewhat mean in the movie, we didn't really see him cheating until the end, but supposedly he cheated on Scott throughout the entire relationship and wasn't very quiet about it either.
And the plastic surgery- I think that very much shows how Liberace basically preyed on the young and vulnerable. Young men who he felt he could literally mold.
I also get the sense from things I've heard elsewhere that Scott was sort of a drifter, low self-esteem, needed a father figure kind of kid. He seems like he's been a mess for most of his life. Wasn't he just arrested or something?

It was pretty good and sad at the same time. Scott was on The View a couple of weeks ago and claims to have also had an affair with Michael Jackson. Supposedly he has passed a polygraph about it, not that those can't be tricked.
It was the owner of the Bunny Ranch who bailed Scott out of jail this last time at the request of his girlfriend and the manager (Suzette). So strange especially with the HBO connection.

Thinking the same thing about Matt Damon. All 3 were so good! Matt Damon was excellent playing a much younger guy (I think Scott was like 22 when they met and Matt is about twice that age).
Read that Rob Lowe taped the side of his head to get his eyes like that. It took me a minute to recognize him. I have loved him since "The Outsiders".

Scott Thorson was actually 17 and Liberace was 57, when they met. Matt Damon was 41 Michael Douglass 67 at time of shooting....
