LA area peeps, help me out with things to do

i'm going to be in the los angeles area (west hollywood, to be exact) the week of 7/8 & will have my nearly 9 year-old with me as well as a vehicle.

we're spending the weekend at disney, but need things to keep us occupied prior to that. 

what should we make sure to see & do before heading down to anaheim?

Right now the El capitan theater is playing Monsters Univeristy.

Does he like to go bowling? Right across the street is Hollywood and highland and they have a lucky strike lanes.

ETA- and if you go over by CPK there is a nice view of the Hollywood sign.
