Holden fell last week and cried for a bit. Not too much more than normal for a fall. She complained maybe once a day about it, but no crying or avoiding using it. I got her to do range-of-motion tests and hold things to test if she could bear weight on it. Everything seemed fine to me.
I took her to the doctor today because I thought maybe it was badly bruised or something. The doctor sent us to X-ray even though he thought she was ok. Turns out my kid has been walking around with a broken arm for a week.
I bought her a feel-better stuffed animal and some I'm-sorry-I'm-a-shitty-mom ice cream.
Please don't beat yourself up over this! You are an awesome mama! I remember something similar happening to a good friend of mine when we were little, except she was walking around on a broken foot. There was no way for you to know it was anything more.
Plus if you beat yourself up, then you'll have 2 people with broken bones.
That happened to my friend and her son last year. She felt AWFUL but her pedi said it was not uncommon for kids to walk around with a break for a while before anyone figured it out. You are not a bad mom!
She's rocking a hot pink cast. We're going out of town next week, and she'll sit by my mom on one of the flights. My mom broke her thumb this weekend. It's going to be ridiculous looking.

Poor girl! But really, don't beat yourself up over it! I saw it happen several times when I worked for a family practice. And snaps to her for a hot pink cast!
Aw don't beat yourself up. You've just got a strong little girl. Same thing actually happened to me when I was 10. I fell off a swing, hit my arm and didn't go to the dr until 4 days later and it ended up being broken.
No! You are not a bad mom at all. Dude, kids are resilient and strong. If my kid wasn't hysterical and seemed to have no issues with the arm/leg/etc I would not think twice. You are awesome, please don't doubt yourself.
It could happen to anyone! At least you brought her to the dr. It was a complete fluke we found out about Leia's skull fracture. She will heal before you know it.

tuck I did the same thing when Eli was 4. My FIL let his coon dog off to run into the woods and instead he turned around and mowed Eli down. He cried pretty hard, but not for long. Any time I picked him, he cried, but just figured it was bruised and/or strained. After a week I took him in and it was broken. I felt awful.

I've heard of this happening. Holden is a tough kid. If she was in terrible pain you would have known. I understand the guilt but it will pass, mostly Hugs to you both.

Don't be hard on yourself. The same thing happened to me when I was little, I broke my arm and my mom didn't take me in for a couple days because I could still use it and wasn't complaining much. It happens!
Thanks guys. I expected a broken bone to hurt much worse- I passed out from the pain when I broke my wrist.
She's happy that it won't hurt any more now. She really is a tough kid. Plus, she gets to be the best unintentional smartass ever. People kept asking her what happened to her arm, and she just deadpans, "i broke it."

If I'm reading this right, even the doc doubted something was broken, right? You did fine momma. When I was in 7th grade I fell on the same arm twice in less than 2 days and discovered after a visit to the doctor that I had a greenstick fracture. My cast was blue :-)
I bet her cast will look great with some glitter puffy paint flowers and swirls!
That sucks, but it happens! Not to me. I have a super low pain tolerance and go into shock all the time, but it happens! Keep the smellometer out and let me know when it gets stinky!
