Does anyone know how it works in relation to gpa and such?
If yes, I have a question.
I received financial aid from October (fall) to now (spring). I can take 6 week classes or 12 week classes, doesn't matter. I can split a term and that's what I did for my Spring. 6 weeks of 1 class, 6 weeks of another.
I have taken 5 classes so far working on my 6th; an A-, C, F, F, B+, and I'll be getting an A- in my 6th class (which I'm still in until Jun 29th). (credits are 4,3,3,3,3,3)
I got a letter from financial aid stating that they did the yearly audit of my grades and that I don't meet the 2.00 GPA.
Except, when I calculate my GPA, with this in coming A-, it works out to a 2.20 GPA. Which satisfies the 2.00 requirement for 2013/2014.
Does this mean that they A) didn't take this last class into consideration because I am still in it? and B) after I complete this course, for this whole 2012/2013, will this mean that my financial aid reinstates since it'll be above a 2.2?
*I failed the 2 classes because, turns out, I suck at accounting. Hence my major change.
Obviously I might need to talk to a financial aid person but if anyone has any insight?
Yah, the 2.2 is including the one I'm finishing up. But the letter I received only included the first 5(obviously, since I'm not done with this course. But this course is still part of the spring semester). I only got the letter a week ago.
Kind of strange they calculated it before the end of the term. Is this last class a summer course, or part of the same semester (or quarter) as the others?
Even if you don't meet the GPA requirements, you can usually get it reinstated once. Maybe your school has their policy online, but I would just call to get it straightened out.
Nope, this is part of the spring semester because I don't get financial aid for summer. I thought it was odd, as well, that they did a GPA audit without the spring semester being officially over. Even those who took the full 12 weeks would still end June 29th.
That's strange that they calculated your GPA already. Also, did you get put on probation first? Normally you get put on probation for a semester or two before being denied it all together. Tons of people mess up or take a hard class or have a bad professor... I feel like you definitely need to get with a financial aid counselor stat! I am certainly not justifying bad grades but I've been there. I would hope you at least had warnings??

No warnings, no probation. When I failed those 2 classes, the financial aid chick told me "that's fine if you split them, just make sure you pass them and everything will be okay". Other than that, I didn't hear anything. No letters, no e-mails. Just a letter that said I was being denied because I didn't meet satisfactory.

That is totally unacceptable. I am sorry! I know some people will be less sympathetic but things happen. What I would do is go to your universities website and find the student handbook. Surely there is something in there re: f. aid probation/denial over unsatisfactory marks. I could be incorrect but the government might have a policy on this too, I'm sure they do, so you might want to look it up. I just can't believe that you would lose aid over one semester.
Were you previously enrolled in college and not do so well, even if it was several years back? That's the only thing I can think of as to why they would just take it with no warning.

The last time I was in college, everything was paid out of pocket and no financial aid was applied for or used. The last time I was in, I stopped with a GPA of 2.9 something or other.

But I never had those credits transferred.
That's good then. I can't understand why they would calculate without the last class. Mistakes happen! Fingers crossed for you
