I have my very first one. Urgent care this morning gave be an antibiotic and something that will turn my pee and eyes orange.
Any tips to alleviate the pain? Im leaving for a mini vacation tomorrow to a water park for 3 days.
How long will I feel like I'm giving birth to a fire demon? The Dr. said to drink lots of fluids but how is this a good idea when it hurts more when I pee? Help me ML.
Cranberry juice and lots of water will help with that. Being really hydrated does ease the pain. I think Azo (over the counter drug) helps with pain, too, although it's been awhile since I took any.
I've heard the orange pee pills are amazing but I've never used them. You want to keep drinking the water to flush everything out. I'm pretty sure the orange pee pills make you all numb down there so it won't hurt. I'm sorry, UTIs are the wooooorrrrst.

You should feel better by tomorrow if you take the pills as scheduled. Also, cranberry or blueberry juice. Not cocktail but the actual 100% juice. And reduce your sugar intake for a few days.
The orange pills will knock the pain down really fast--promise. I rarely need to take more than two doses of those before the pain is gone forever.
A note about cranberry juice: it's helpful in preventing UTIs, but it won't do shit to cure them. If you want to chug it going forward as preventative maintenance, knock yourself out, but it's not going to help you right now.
The more you drink, the less it hurts to pee. Drinking a ton of water really helps in your recovery.
And watch out for a yeast infection. Antibiotics sometimes mess with the balance down there. Some people recommend eating extra (real) yogurt. Another reason for extra water drinking.

Cranberry juice has some mild antibiotic properties, plus it keeps you really hydrated so yea, it does work. Every doctor I know--ER, OB, general PCP, pedi, all agree on this point.
I also agree with the yogurt. And take ALL of your antibiotics. I've had low level chronic UTIs because I didn't finish my meds.
Chug water like it is your job. Constantly flushing your urinary tract helps you feel better and doesnt allow the bacteria to grow or climb. The first few pees suck, but around the third really big pee it shouldn't hurt so much. The orange pills help with the pain. If you take antibiotics and the orange pills and drink tons of water you will feel fine by tomorrow. But if you don't flush your system or finish your antibiotics, you will feel better tomorrow maybe but not next week.

In addition to what everyone has said - don't go down the really tall slides at the water park. They can send waterpark water shooting up and well - that's no good for anyone.
I feel sooo much better within a day of taking the antibiotics. They turn my pee orange, but your eyes?? Are you sure about that?
Just drink lots of water and cranberry juice, and I truly think you'll be feeling fine tomorrow for your trip. At least for me, I am always feeling a million times better within 24 hours.
Also, just a random comment about the orange pee - the bright orange color makes it easy to see small traces of pee, and I'm always horrified to see where pee ends up. Like I'll think I wiped well and then there are some orange spots on my panties. I go a little bit nuts because no matter what I do, I always end up seeing an orange spot on a toilet seat, undies, etc, and then I'm grossed out that so much pee goes unnoticed when it's not brightly colored.
So, um, does anyone else have this issue? Or am I just a sloppy pee-er.
Good luck, the pills will help super soon with the pain! Take them on schedule and stay hydrated to get those orange pills thru your system. Cranberry juice helps.

The orange color seems to be just sort of pooling around my contact lenses.

I'm a lurker de-lurking to share my UTI information:
After suffering from chronic UTIs in my mid-20s, and learning to love my AZO, I had my first UTI of my mid-30s a couple months ago and got the prescription stuff (side-note: WTF, old doctor, for not giving me a prescription for this back when I got UTIs monthly?!?!). I noticed that the prescription stuff had a warning about turning contact lenses orange, but that hadn't been something I'd read with the AZO materials. I think the script is stronger.
And you should already be feeling much better if your eyes are turning orange . Just keep drinking water and taking your scripts. It's so much better to pee with actual pee than to sit on the toilet feeling the urge with nothing coming out.
Finally, cranberry juice is good, but I caution about taking the cranberry pills sold next to AZO while also drinking lots of cranberry juice. Turns out, this can make your urine so acidic that you may feel burning while peeing.
Also: Yes, it is disturbing how much pee is EVERYWHERE.
There is an OTC med called uristat that will give you pain relief almost immediately. I take it until the antibiotics kick in.
UTIs really suck.
I know I'm a bit late to comment. AZO is basically the same thing as Uristat. I use Uristat too, but only because it's what I had I guess. No real difference between the 2. That said, that shit is AMAZING! I can't live without it when I have a UTI.
I agree on the water park thing though. I would avoid going if at all possible! It will not help you get better. If you must go, do things like the lazy river, not the crazy rides, cause as PP said, it will force waterpark water in places you don't want it!
Also, some people have the orange eye issue and some don't. It just seems to be how your body processes it. I wouldn't wear contacts unless you plan to ditch them after, as they will end up dyed orange...
