I adore this closet setup, and while the middle space in my closet is only about 1/2 as wide, I think this is something we could reasonably do.
If we did though, we would have no need for a dresser in the master bedroom. DH hates my adorable vintage dresser anyway, so this could be a good thing. If I took it out though, all we would have in our bedroom is a bed and two dinky nightstands. I'm thinking we should beef up the nightstands a little and in the corner put a small, cozy reading chair and a floor lamp. Would that look okay? This is our bedroom.
It extends a few more feet on the left, but the bath and closet are on that wall. I'm standing in the doorway and you can see the corner of the current dresser in the bottom right corner.
Dog crate and stairs aren't there anymore. Didn't Mom and Dad do a great job making the bed and cedar chest? - And yes, we haven't really gotten around to decorating this room yet.

Lamps on the nightstands for sure ... and maybe a small rocker or glider and floor lamp in place of the dresser you'd be getting rid of? I love having a recliner in my bedroom, personally.

I think the bedroom looks great. However, don't you have anything long to hang in the closet? I don't think the closet would work for me. I have too many dresses, skirts, and long jackets.

We have a good sized closet, and aren't using our dressers. I like it, but I am pretty minimalist and like clean open spaces.
We have room for an armchair or something, and if I happen across one at a garage sale or something maybe I will get one. But it's not something I really want to spend money on, yk? Bc we have bout eleventy billion other places to sit in the house. I am not going to win any decorating awards, but I don't really care. I am happy with it, and that is all that matters. We do have a few really classy "decor" items in there like the laundry drying rack, lol, that take up space.
i immediately thought of adding a chair and placing it where the dresser is now. i love the chair we have. before we replaced the bench at the end of our bed with the bassinet for our newborn, we used the bench all the time, too. you can still go for simple/clean lines, if you don't want a space to feel too cluttered up or filled.
