So, this is totally not S&B related but I consider you my girls and need some opinions on whether this is worth it and if so, if the timing is good or bad.
I've been doing zumba now for 6 months, religiously. I LOVE it more than anything else I've done exercise wise and I'm completely obsessed with it. I go 4 to 5 times a week and I could seriously go 7 or more, it it that fun.
The instructors have told me that I should consider teaching and I totally brushed that off for a while until now... Kinda thinking it would be fun.
Here's the details:
- Course for certification is not too $$, I can afford it with a little planning and you renew annually (for less once you're initially certified) - Instructor positions aren't just pouring out all over the place, but there are options so if I wanted to teach my own class it's probably available. - Instructors don't make much, they basically make $15 to $23 per class. Not much but certainly better than paying to take the class. - I have a full time job, I don't need the money, this would just be for fun. - Being cert. means you have access to the new zumba choreography each quarter, SO FUN! - We're probably going to try for baby #3 this fall. Doesn't mean I can't teach, it's just something to think about.
I can't help but think this might keep me motivated through pregnancy and then as soon as I start exercising again after. I worked really hard after baby #2 to lose almost 50lbs and I don't want to slip back into bad habits.
What do you girls think? Should I just keep attending class and make this a goal for after baby #3 or just do it and work with the pregnancy however it happens?
You're super jazzed about it now, and may not be so after baby #3. If you do it now, you can get into it a bit and then figure out how it'll go throughout your pregnancy, and then you can hop right back into it once you are ready after the baby!
I think this would be a GREAT motivator to continue working out, since you are totally responsible for it.
I think you should go for it, it's so rare to find something to do that you love so much and is good for you and your body and soul. Especially with kids, I think it is so important to have that outlet to keep your sanity. I think it's a no brainer.

I actually have 2 friends who went through Zumba instruction & are certified. I'll tell you that it's not as cheap as it seems because you have to do refresher courses to keep your certification. Both of them have had a hard time keeping jobs also, even though they are FANTASTIC at teaching. It seems to be overly populated in my area and instructors are easy to come by. People don't have enough loyalty to the class.
So, I'd go to the zumba website to see how many places in your area offer it already. If it's barely any, then you may be able to introduce it to your neighborhood & hopefully get a good reaction. If there are a lot, then there are a lot of potential jobs, but also a lot of competition.
Moral of the story, if you're just doing it for the fun of it, go for it. If you're doing it to have a steady part-time for extra cash, it can be hit or miss.

I think you should go for it!! But this is from someone who also works full time but is planning to start pilates teacher training next month! I LOVE pilates. I am addicted. It's a portable job and my dream is to open my own studio one day. So yeah. I'm going to take the first step, which is the training & then certification.
so I think it's a great idea for you! There are not really any reasons not to!

You guys are AWESOME! This is what I needed to hear for sure. I guess putting it all in words and then getting your opinions was what I needed to see the whole picture. Now I need to convince H that this is an expense we need to work into the budget. The only class in CO anytime soon is July 12th
Oh my gosh, I'm totally freaked out but excited too.
MissHark, that's awesome about pilates!! Good for you!
I think you should go for it only if you don't think it would ruin it for you. If it would make it a "job" instead of fun then don't do it.
That's amazing that you've lost all that weight and found a type of exercise you love. I wish I liked working out (I don't like it so I just don't work out )
Joanis, I have never enjoyed working out ever in my life. Maybe one aerobics class in high school but it was probably because I liked that better than regular PE. (Gross) Zumba just spoke to me and it totally took me by surprise!
I have also found myself addicted to those muddy obstacle course runs that keep popping up everywhere... agh I can't stop signing up for them! haha
