Nah, not freak. I just find it hilarious that mom is going to be paying for the room. I mean, I spent some birthday money on a hotel for a party in college once. Not quite the same, but my parents paid for a place for us underage kids to get high and drink ourselves silly. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Meh.  The husband's grandmother used to pay for our hotel sex when we started dating.  Score!  :-)

I am simultaneously freaking out for your son and thinking how I would have murdered my parents if they had shown any signs of freaking out about something like that when I was 20. 

I like namasteak's suggestion if it is possible, about having family drive him from the airport.  Definitely book a hotel room and meet the friend at a public place first.

I did something similar at 20, my parents did pay for our hotel room . It all turned out great.

I also slept in a stranger's house at 19, with friends though, because we were on a road trip and didn't book hotels. We met some people and they offered us their floor for free. Not the smartest move, but I lived to tell the tale!

Miso is killing it here! But I agree with the hotel. It will be a smoother way to meet the son, I can't tell you are (mostly, to the extent you have reasonable concerns) primarily worried about him imposing, the hotel is great. And yes, it is a spot for them to have some alone time, and that's nice too, as long as the boy is an adult.

I never was involved with any information about my son's liasons. I'm really really surprised that sue sue's son is so open with her. Not because of the gay aspect, but there's NO WAY my sons would feel comfortable about talking about meeting up at a hotel with a partner with their ol' ma. Sex and Mom just doesn't go together with my kids. DS#1 turns several shades of white when I talk about men in my drinking days. lol

DS#2 did tell me when it was confirmed he was gay (when he was no longer celibate), but that was the extent of the sharing he did with me.
