DH, a musician and who I don't think has ever played a soccer match in his life, is becoming a pain in the butt during the eurocup. It cracks me up to hear him talking game theory/plays. Dude, you don't watch soccer. You've hardly ever played. I played quite a bit when I was a kid.
I think best plan is to keep my mouth shut, right?
I wish it was only during the Euros. The dude is like that 24x7. Seriously. There were times in Geneva when he would watch second division Portugese football because no one else was playing.
We may be married to the same man.
I can't watch anything on tv because every Euro match is being recorded, followed by Sky Sports news and Fox Soccer Report. My husband lives and breathes football.

My father is like that with American football.
I guess I can't complain, you ladies have it way worse. It just cracks me up to see his reactions!
Oh no!!!! Not a goal for Spain!!!! They're playing Ireland!!! Come on the boys in green!!!!!
I've told dh that I am not putting up with watching football every night for the next few weeks. He's gone to the pub to watch it with his friend. And most of his other friends are in Gdansk for the match.

It's an all year thing here.
(2nd goal for Spain, I hear... ( )
Sorry. The Irish fans look sad in the stands. 4-0 right now. We  you, EU rescue buddies!
I just found out a kid I knew in the past is playing semi-pro soccer. I don't know how to feel about this.
Neither of us care much about soccer, but it was a lot of fun to see the game against NL at a sports bar, when DK won somewhat unexpectedly and everyone started singing and dancing. I'm glad I don't have to listen to DH give his opinions about any of it, though.

We're watching all the games, and I have to say that I enjoy it, too. DH is pretty laid back, though, and doesn't try to be a couch coach. Go, Germany! :-)

Wow, Spain gave Ireland a pounding.
He's totally obsessed but only for big matches including the Euro now. I have to admit that I devote very little time to thinking about soccer (Chelsea winning the Champions League aside, and I only watched that cause he wanted to), but he has kind of gotten me hooked on the Euro this time around.
Edited because the new found soccer expert appears to be me. I'll pay no attention to the regular season though and it will get old I am sure.
We just watch the German games. And he really doesn't follow anything else. I would watch games if nothing else was on. He doesn't own a single item of German clothing.
I don't mind watching. But the staying up till 3am or getting up at 3am to watch isn't my thing now that we are in the US. But I am the kind of wife who finds the live streams for him before I go to bed. But can never find a German streams sadly.
DH said it was like watching a match between a group of his mates (who only "play" football together once a year on 26/6) play against Barcelona!! Completely out classed... ah well...
He likes F1 too and Michael Schumacher would be his all time favourite really. I'm more a Jenson Button person (but not his team mate at all!). One of our rare date nights ended up being at the cinema to watch Senna... I'm not that into F1 but was interesting.
Irish - I've watched part of the Senna doc. I really liked it. We have it on-demand. I should suggest that to H for a movie next time.
My dad and brother are into F1 too. So I was into Lewis Hamilton before H. He was just really personable and funny on Top Gear. So I followed his career more than.
I have grown to like football over here! I have the reverse problem though. Since moving to France, my H has watched more NFL than I thought imaginable outside of Texas. I successfully watched more American football in my first year in France, than I did my entire time in Texas. H is really into strategy and statistics and fantasy football... *sigh* Half the time I have no idea what he is talking about.

You have talked before about him playing in pick up games. I find it so interesting that he is into American football. What got him into it!?

I'm not a fan of Hamilton... Yes, he was funny on Top Gear. But there are plenty of times that when something goes wrong during a race he acts like a spoilt child and tries to place the blame on anyone but himself, even if it is clear that he made the error that landed him in the tyre wall...
And how has a football thread ended up being about F1??

Yea, he plays for an American football team outside of Paris in the 3rd division league. We are going to see the first division championship next weekend. We went last year and it was a lot of fun.
As for what got him into it, he always loved sports and he likes a lot of American culture. I think that he loves the tactics and stategy in the game. When we moved to Paris, he switched from playing roller hockey to football.

I've become the soccer expert that only comes out, I've noticed, during the world cup and to a smaller degree now. Yes, I annoy myself. Ha ha. This year we decided to root for NL because we just love it there so much, but it seems like I jinxed it. My expert status isn't too impressive as the only thing I know about Holland is they're orange. I know a tiny bit more about Germany, though and those are the games we tend to watch.

Or pouting because he finished third...Sorry, I really can't stand the guy.
To answer your question, I don't know but I like it.
"Petulant" is another word that springs to mind when I think of Hamilton...
On football, our work have a pool thing with the Euros... each department "supports" a team and there is a chart showing progress. Our department drew Germany!!! So we are in with a shout of winning the prize at the end....
Have I seen Father Ted? Eh, yes... probably every single episode... I can actually hear them saying that phrase! In fact, I've driven past the house that is the house in Father Ted and worked with the son of the actor who plays Father Ted...
The programme really captures a certain stereotype of Irish society to a T! (Though not a modern stereotype...)
