looks like turkey I had to dissect cats in Anat and Phys... Thanksgiving was rough that year.
I'm SO glad my highschool science class only did frogs because the year after us had to do cats. I would have cried. I still think formaldehyde smells like watermelon. I don't eat much watermelon anymore because of it.

That is the weirdest thing I have ever heard. hahahah
It is weird. I don't know why I'm so stuck on associating it with watermelon but sometimes it brings me right back to 10th grade science class and that poor little frog.
Do you like blueberry pie filling? I'd maybe try that. OR try mashing up some of your blueberries and cooking them down with or without simple syrup to make them more juicy.
DItto on it being the blueberries. They aren't as juicy as strawberries if you don't dice or mash them prior to baking. Also, some cakes are intentionally more "cornbread" like, depending on the leavening. I haven't made this SK recipe, but I googled it, and it looks like it's supposed to be a little more dense than say, a birthday cake, KWIM?
Our professional bakers on board can comment, but these are just my thoughts.
Some people are just so practical. I was trying to get it back to kittens and dissection and maybe even horror movies. But nooooo, people have to be bakers and pass on practical advice and stuff.
Blueberry boy bait is amazing. I used the Cook's Country recipe for it, which I believe is the one Smitten Kitchen posted as well. I bet the different in sugar and moisture is what caused the cake to be denser.
