Sorry if this a dumb question, is this a bad idea to buy a short sale house without getting inspection done? Its being sold as is so we could get the inspection done afterwards, no?
Yeah I'd get the inspection done now. That way you can back out if there is a major problem. We bought an estate sale "as is " but still had an inspection contingency. If there were major problems we could get out of the contract. Luckily there wasn't anything wrong that was major. Good luck!
Thanks! The bank won't release who the local management company is in charge to the listing agent. But they put a work order in. I have rescheduled the inspection twice and this time cancelled it. I will wait till the house is ready for inspection. This waiting game sucks.
It's always a bad idea to buy any house without an inspection, even a new build.
Like PP said, the house may be sold "as-is" but an inspection will alert you to any crazy damage that you want no part of, or will at least give you a heads up to what you may want to fix in the future. Also, many homes sold "as-is" will often make fixes for you anyway. Ours did, and I know plenty of others around here have too.
An inspection is severl hundreds dollars well spent!
Ditto others. I would not buy a house without an inspection. You have no idea the issues w/ this property and could be getting in over your head without even knowing it. Paying $300+ is worth it.
Trust me, get the inspection. It is worth it. Besides, our inspector showed us a lot of little, but important things like where the water shut off valves were and stuff.
ALWAYS get an inspection before you buy. THen you know if you still want to buy it and if so have a better idea of what needs to be done, how much it will cost etc. Do so even if the bank will not do any of the repairs. Make your decision accordingly.
Well, the house is finally ready for inspection which is scheduled for thursday! In the mean time the house appraised 10K lower than the offer so that's good thing.
