I can't see the video; can you tell me what's on it?
I haven't eaten at a GC in 15+years.
A worker took video of raw meat that was sitting out by the dumpster that was going to be brought back in to serve after the inspectors left. Nothing was labeled properly and the meat was out in the open with flies swarming around.
DH works in the restaurant supply business and has told me some horror stories about what he has seen in some places. Because of this, there are very few restaurants he will eat at.
No, but apparently everyone else in our town goes there regularly because their parking lot is always packed with cars. It's too early in the morning for that video, but I have no trouble believing that some pretty disgusting things happen there.
That one is brand new and I've been a couple of times. I wasn't impressed, but the kids thought the chocolate fountain and cotton candy machine was cool.
We don't eat at any kind of buffet, but my FIL and my sister both LOVE Gold Corral. I don't get the appeal. I can't wait to show my sister this video, lol.
No. I had to go once when I was pg (it was for DH's friend's son's first communion) and I was afraid to eat anything. It was dirty and gross. DH thinks I'm snobby, but even he will never go back.
That's gross! We don't eat at buffet places like that because it just weirds me out in general. (We do have 1 Chinese buffet we eat at because its always busy so nothing ever gets old and it's delicious).
We hardly ever go, but Every once in a while I feel like their salad bar and yeast rolls. I never eat the food food, because I don't like it. But I do love the salad. The Golden Corral here is pretty open in terms of storage and seeing where the food is kept/cooked/restocked. Of all of the buffets, it grosses me out the least. I go to Jason's deli a lot more now if I want a salad bar.
I like Old Country Buffet for a chain buffet and Shady Maple for a real buffet. Golden Corral just never measured up to either. We go every once in awhile, it's not my favorite. But the one we go to is rather clean, foods are always being swapped out instead of being left out, and they don't have a giant enclosed dumpster. (This makes me feel better, don't burst my bubble).
But on a whole, buffets gross me out. I don't really want to touch/eat the same stuff every snotty kid has touched, every adult has fondled, and someone has probably sneezed on it.
We've been there but only because my ILs love that place. It's my MIL's favorite place. I always felt icky and grimey coming out of that place and now I know why. Ew.
I haven't, but I probably would. I have no issue with buffets, though they're not my favorite, and I generally prefer to avoid chains if possible. I've pretty much just accepted that gross things probably happen in all kitchens, and I try not to think about it too much, or get hung up on it.
I don't care for buffets so I don't eat there. I would rather eat something of quality than just as much as I could eat. I feel much safer eating fast food than buffet style food.
We used to go there regularly when I was a kid. My dad called it the Golden Trough. Heh.
That's gross.
You know though, I've gotten food poisoning a few times in my life, and its always been from an upscale restaurant! Maybe because they don't freeze meat or their dairy products aren't ultrapasteurized or something?

blehhhh no.
that video is disgusting. the one and only time we ever went there as a kid, my mom and i went to the bathroom and found an employee picking her nose pretty intensely at the mirror, only to wipe it on her apron and walk out without washing her hands. we walked right out and have called it booger corral ever since.
i'm sure foul shit happens everywhere, but when i've witnessed shit like this first hand...yeah, i'm not going back.
