So I went to bed like this to get beautiful curls. Then I undid them and omg. I tried brushing one side. The final result. Yes, you heard it here first, don't sleep with buns sticking out of your hair unless you plan on wearing your hair in...A BUN! frkls??
When I had long hair, after a shower, I'd put my hair up for the day in a not so perfect bun. By the time it dried and I took it down, it had slight curl to mostly waves to it.
You know what does work? Rag curls. Or paper curls. I shit you not, I sat and cut paper bag strips and rolled and tied my hair. Took them out the next morning and bam! Curls. I suggest using strips of cotton though, it doesn't tear and is comfortable over paper.
I do something similar to the headband curls but without the headband. Rope twists along the front to the side (twist using two strands instead of French braids with three strands) on both sides and then braid or twist in the back where the two sides meet. Kidlet wears her hair to school like that (I've worn mine to their school as well) and I get lots of compliments on the "complicated" hairstyle that takes no more than five minutes. (I've done it in the parking lot before. lol.) When it gets taken down the curls are fabulous. I think I'll do it for school pictures next year and save the flat-iron time.
