I have the Karlstad in one of the grey colours. I love it. I haven't had to take the slipcovers off to clean them yet. I've always used a damp cloth to clean any spills and that has worked just fine.
I have the Ikea Ektorp couch and loveseat. We really like them. We have the white covers on them- we bought the new covers in February (because they are sold seperately, so you can change them up if you want to!). $79 for the white couch cover, $49 for the loveseat cover. I just washed/bleached them this weekend, hung them outside to dry and they look freaking brand new.
We have had them for 6 years, through 4 moves and they've held up great. We'll eventually get new LR furniture, and move these upstairs to our gameroom.
This is what we have too. We have the sectional with the white covers. It's really easy to keep clean and it's gone through a cross country move and held up well.
I have the Karlstad, too, and have been very happy with it. I have two wild, messy boys, and it still looks great. I've had to wash the cushion covers a few times, they were easy to take off and put back on.
We have Ektorp couches and a Karlstad sectional that we have split into a loveseat and chaise right now. Both are comfortable, and have stood up to several moves, kids, etc. Of the two, I think the Karlstad is more comfortable (Ektorp is pretty firm until it's really broken in), and I like that the Karlstad can be reconfigured really easily.
We've had the sofa since March and we've been really happy with it. The covers are super easy to clean (we've spilled all sorts of stuff on them, and the puppy barfed on one cushion) with a Tide pen or furniture cleaner.
That couch is super nice. H really wants a new couch soon because ours is old and losing all its shape and firmness. I'm trying to convince him on Ikea rather than going to Room & Board like he wants.
I have the Kivik sofa, loveseat, and ottoman in Tullinge grey-brown and love it. Super comfy. It's fairly new so I can't speak to how well it wears, but cat hair doesn't seem to stick very easily and what does vacuums off easily.

now now now, don't take it too far. i loved my ektorp and have a klippan in our den upstairs. but i'm not exactly shunning room and board either. i love that place.

LOL. Yeah, I'm on this train.
There's no way anything at IKEA is going to be a superior choice over Room & Board.

I love it too but our budget is much closer to Ikea! We did get our bedroom set from Room & Board last year and now H wants Room & Board furniture everywhere.
