So I'm craving mac and cheese, and I'm also exhausted and not wanting to go to the store, purchase the ingredients and take the time to make it.
Then I remembered that a nearby store (all imported foods - the translated name is "World Kitchen") sells macaroni and cheese in a can.
It sounds so disgusting, but I'm tempted to try it, partly due to curiosity, and partly due to the fierceness of this craving coupled with extreme exhaustion.
Has anyone else seen this? Have you been bold enough to try it?
I had some cans of the Chef Boyardee brand mac & cheese as part of my hurricane stash (back when I lived in hurricane lands). It was pretty gross unless you're in a particular hungover or PMS-y craving-super-super-salty-foods kind of mood.
If you can find the boxed stuff, I would do that. They sell Kraft at our local gourmet market and I have a couple of boxes of Annie's Organic Mac & Cheese shipped here from the U.S. for a cooking emergency. If you were closer, I could share!

I ate the Heinz-style canned mac n cheese when I was a college student in the UK. It was pretty weird IMO. I ate all kinds of questionable things back in those days, like a powder that becomes chicken soup (wtf?). Don't get me wrong, it was ok but a cauliflower cheese from Tesco is better and not much more expensive. In an act of desperation though I might eat it.
I ended up giving in, walking the whole ten minutes to the grocery, and getting the ingredients necessary to make this (except no pepperjack because I don't think that exists here). This is my usual go-to recipe for mac & cheese, and as usual, it's very, very satisfying.
Hahaha. The first time I made mac & cheese (not Kraft, homemade) for my partner, I was told I was a superb cook and how did I ever imagine such a delightful dish. I never imagined a dish I consider fairly normal would become a highly requested item.
I have never had tinned or boxed mac and cheese. I have only had it from scratch, but I must admit that it is among my least favourite foods. DH and DS love it and each huge dishes of it though so I make it and force myself to have some. (I usually put bacon and onion in the one I make)

I remember having caned mac & cheese as a cild. It was similar to other Chef Boyardee stuff, not the best, but not the worst stuff I've ever had. Canned Chef Boyardee ravioli was served as part of Sunday brunch when I was in college. I laughed every time I got there late and they were out. It was the most popular brunch dish. But then it was Sunday morning on a college campus.

I've made the boxed stuff for my H and he declared it the most awful thing ever...which I actually agree - but he had heard about it for years and needed to try it. I make homemade which is much nicer - I can't deal with the artificial taste of the boxed as an adult (I'm sure I loved it as a kid, but don't remember as we didn't eat it often).
And I make mine with bechamel - I love bechamel as well Tofu!
