Sorry - I just scrolled down and saw this. No, I did not use teething tablets. My parents brought over teething gel when they visited us, but I only used that once before deciding it was a waste. In Germany what they tend to use are either amber teething necklaces or "Veilchenwurzel" (violet roots). If Kernel is really having problems, then you can either go to the pharmacy and ask if they have any suggestions, or if you've already found a midwife for your pregnancy (in Germany it's normal to have both an OB and a midwife), then you can ask her. I also used teething rings. All of the above - the amber necklaces, Veilchenwurzel, and teething rings, can be found at a drug store (like DM).

I'm butting in to say the best thing I used for DD back in the day was a French product called Camilia. It's made by Boron and they sell it all over the place here (and in health food stores in the U.S.). You might be able to find it in Germany.
Clove oil also worked very well. I mixed a drop or two in a tablespoon of olive oil and kept it in one of those babyfood making containers (the kind that fit in an icecube tray) for a few days, using as needed. Do NOT put straight clove oil on the gums as it can be kind of spicy.
Wet washcloths put in the freezer and bagels also worked. I have no idea if you can get frozen bagels in Germany.

Ok...we have Osanit...these are tiny herbal pills that they take, E loves them?!?! The appear to help. We also use Dentinox gell but I'm not sure if that's french, the box is in E's room and she's asleep otherwise I'd check. We also have a root but E doesn't like it...Maddy thinks they're great and ate the first one! We did have an Amber necklace but she just pulls on it so I've had to put it away
Thanks everyone for the replies! I have just noticed Kernel will wake up screaming but she's not hungry or anything and I think she's in pain from a tooth she has coming through. I think I will look for what Mouse said she uses.

This sounds like what people use in Spain. It's chamomile tablets. Funny, right? I assume they might have something similar here.

Osanit or chamamille Globuli are good for teething. Just ask for them at the pharmacy. The nice thing about those is that you don´t have to worry about ODing on them. You can also get dentinox which will numb the area for a short while, maybe long enough to eat. I found that DD liked gnawing on a cold carrott straight from the fridge when she was teething.

This is a good tip. Kernel seems to be a big fan of apple slices fresh out of the fridge. I think the coolness of it soothes her gums.
