I received a referral to a chiropractor from my sports medicine doctor for my neck. I think my appointment is an hour maybe? What Aa they going to do? I'm looking forward to it, my neck feels like it has had to pop for months!

I walk out of there feeling pretty awesome! Back cracked a few times along with your neck...feels great! They will probably take X-rays the first visit and then want you to come 3x/week. I would probably start with that if you are noticing it helps, and also depending on your insurance. 3x a week is pretty intense to keep up! Massages are also covered under my insurance so I get one through my chiro every other week.
I see a chiropractor who specializes in sports injuries as needed when I'm feeling beat up. Just relax and let them do their thing. They'll definitely pop some bones and potentially use the electrical stim. You'll feel good!
It does feel good. I started going when I hurt my foot last year. They work on my foot, and then he works on my back and neck if needed. It's like a massage. I only go a couple of times a year but I enjoy it.
I went for the first time in my life last year. He examined my posture and spine and neck and alignment and I laid on a table that turned and tilted in all directions. He fiddled with my neck and hips and shoulders and cracked a bunch of things. It felt sooooo good. I only needed one adjustment.
I have seen a chiropractor off and on for about 13 years. I love the chiro. I really depends on the chiro, their capabilities and your needs as to what they will do. The chiro I see now does ART on my leg and neck(for migraines), adjusts my ankle and my back/neck as needed.
The biggest thing to remember is to relax- that makes the chiro's job much easier and effective.
I went once, and it was a stupid waste of 2 hours--they had me watch videos from the 1980s on the wonder of chiropractic, read materials, and the doctor came in briefly to reiterate the wonders of chiropractic care. (And no one touched my back.)
I believe you guys aren't quacks! You don't have to sell me on your product! Less yakkin, more crackin'

Welcome to my life two years ago. IME, the answer is "nothing." Seriously...absolutely no results except the terror of signing a waiver saying that the chiro could break your neck but you can't sue.
I just started going for ART on my leg but for my first appt, it was a full body exam which consisted of ruling out my spine and other areas as the source of my issues, looking for weaknesses, and eventually ended up with lots of trigger point therapy/ART and a "feel-good" pain. Then he finishes with the typical adjustments. I've only gone 3 times but I'm already tons better.

I noticed big improvements in range of motion but not in pain reduction or in the amount of spasm events I had. In the end he was a crazy so I left.
I tried PT and had improvements in pain. He told me the chiro adjustments were too jolting to my neck and It was causing more inflammation.
He ended up being really crazy (went on a homophobic rant while holding my head/neck) so I obviously never went back and I'm not sure i trust anything he ever told me. So maybe the chiro wasn't bad??
I'd say if the first chiro is wacky try someone else!
Update: I went this morning and was very pleased. He was very thorough. No X-rays, which I'm glad I didn't have to do. He did one minor adjustment to my neck both left and right. One side popped the other side was a little sore when he moved it. The pop felt so good!! He was not a quack I can assure you that. I'm going to go back at least 4 times. I'm actually looking forward to it. I'll be doing this in conjunction with PT.
