I'm going to try this. I've thrown a couple heads in boiling water for 10 seconds to peel them when making 40 clove garlic chicken but even that was a PITA so the next time I made it I bought them pre-peeled at Costco!

That was my first thought. I don't generally need a whole head of garlic at one time
I just peeled six cloves last night and it got my hands all stinky. I am trying this!
Do you know the trick for getting the smell off your hands? Stainless steel! Rub them on your knife under water. Or get one of these "soap bars". I have one and love it.
Very cool! When I need one or two cloves I just smash them with my knife and the peel comes off. This way will be very helpful when I need more, thanks!
I would never do that, b/c it means that there are two more dishes to wash. And obviously that would take longer than squeezing each clove until the skin pops open and then painstakingly peeling it off.
I do this every time I peel garlic and it only seems to peel about half of the cloves. I've tried the cup in a cup method, bowl in bowl, fresher garlic, old garlic and it never all comes out of the peel. It is still much easier than peeling every single clove, though, so I still do it.
Another easy way is to cut the bottom off of it so that every clove is exposed, drizzle it with oil, wrap in foil and bake at 400 for about 10 min. They just pop right out and you can store the unused cloves for later.

I'll keep this in mind if I ever need the whole clove peeled at once. I usually use my hands to peel, sometimes I use one of those rubber tube peelers.

I've tried that before and it didn't work very well. The cloves only came out half peeled.
When I have a large amount to peel, I lay them out on the cutting board and smash them with the bottom of a cast iron skillet. When I need just a few cloves, I smash them with the side of a knife.
