After months and MONTHS of running at 1000mph at work, things have come to a screeching halt. There's a great "I can't tell you" story behind it, but for now and for the next few days, I am doing very little. I'm trying to catch up on posts, but feel disconnected. So here's your shot - Ask me or Tell me anything!
What do you do? I am a clinical analyst for an IT company that has a third party application which provides reporting services for hospital systems and doctors offices. I support the self-management programs which use the application, including tobacco cessation, pain management, senior support programs, etc.
Do you enjoy your work? I do mostly, yes. Every company has its frustrations and growing pains. We're in a difficult middle ground where the company doesn't have enough people but we don't want to spend a ton of money right now while trying to go public. But when I'm working with the client on making sure their work gets done and done right? I love what I do.
What is the next event in which you are participating? Sylvannia (OH) Women's triathlon is on July 38th. 400M swim, 11 mile bike, 5k. I'm hardly training for it, I can do the distances now... but I really should be running more. Probably.
If my H ends up going to work on a project in Detroit, can you give me running route recommendations?
OMG YES!!!! I'd be happy to, I run at lunch sometimes and can offer some really great routes. I also know the good bars and restaurants because I work downtown, in case you also need those.

How did you get into triathlons? Did you already do all 3 sports or did you have to learn new ones when you started racing? Which has been the hardest and why?
Do you have any pets?
Did you grow up in Detroit? If not, what caused you to move there?
How did you get into triathlons? Did you already do all 3 sports or did you have to learn new ones when you started racing? Which has been the hardest and why? A friend of mine sent me a link to a women's only mini tri last year and said "we're doing this" and so I signed up! I was already running (I'd run my first 5k in May of last year) and swimming. I'd picked up swimming to work on breathing for kickboxing, I was frustrated by my lack of breathing patterning in classes and swimming forces the same pattern. I had to buy a bike, for my first event. I hadn't ridden in almost 20 years.
Ironically now the bike is clearly my strongest event, followed by swim (?!) and run. I am just not a fast runner, I'm built like my mom with short legs that just don't move all that fast. Mom is an ultramarthoner who still runs an 11 minute mile in most races. We're not built for speed but damnit we can go forever! Swim is definitely the hardest even, however.
Do you have any pets? I have a cat! His name is Wilhelm. He's 11, grumpy, and really likes 4am.

I grew up back east, mostly in Maryland. I came out to Michigan for graduate school (U of M) and then met my husband. He works for one of the automakers, so we live here from now until eterinity I assume. That said, I've been here a decade which is longer than I've lived anywhere - so it kind of feels like home.
But I didn't say that out loud. And it's soda, not pop.

Awesome! We don't know for sure yet if he will be on it, it's somewhere in the north burbs.
Do you have any pets? This is Wilhelm my beloved and yet totally crazy cat:
What do you miss about the east/MD? I miss my family ALL THE TIME. I miss some stores, restaurants, and nostalgia. Otherwise, I'm all set here.
What do you like about MI that wasn't offered in the east? Life here is slower, traffic is better, there's amazing fresh food here too. People are nicer, living is cheaper, and I really like Faygo.
Worst running event you ever ran/participated in? ("worst" does not mean time, just experience) I actually thought my last Tri was a little odd in how it was run, but I don't think I've ever really 'bad' experience yet. That'll happen I'm sure!
Favorite junk food? Ice cream!!!!
Do you sleep with socks on? No never. I sleep in, well, nothing. TMI?
How did you go from not having biked in 20 years to doing tris so fast? I havent biked in about 12 years and im finding it really hard to get comfortable amd not terrified.
Also, i really enjoy your blog because i think you and your husband are totally adorable and i love how much you support each other.
Also again, i grew up in new york and drank faygo as a kid. Its so nasty lol

I live in flat-land suburbia with a lot of paved parks nearby, so getting time on the bike away from cars was pretty easy. Besides that it was just dogged determination. My first tri, the bike was very slow but I picked up speed with spin over the winter and do much better now.
I'm glad you enjoy my blog! I'll have more time for it soon, I hope.
Did you ever get that new GPS watch? If so, do you like it?
I did get a Forerunner 10, it's nice and simple and gives me what I need. I don't like having to change back and forth through a dozen menus so I can use it on my bike (speed vs. pace) but otherwise I'm a fan.
I also got H a 610 for his birthday and he LOVES it.
You're at the end of your posted 2013 race schedule, what's next your next big race goal?
Actually I have 2 more races, but the stupid signature thing won't let me put in any more characters!
I have a tri next sunday (sprint distance, but a short swim) and then a 10k in October which will be my first. I"m also considering doing Pittsburgh half marathon in May.
