i am going to SF next weekend and have 8mi planned for saturday and 16mi for sunday. i've never been and know nothing about the city and would prefer to avoid a lot of hills, if possible. any suggestions? how long is the golden gate bridge? thanks!

I ran along Chrissy Field, which is the park area near the Golden Gate Bridge. It's right on the water, and it's completely flat. I also ran over the bridge one day. I can't remember how long it was. It was a great route.
The embarcadero is flat and I ran there almost everyday when I was there in June. Head out early to avoid all the tourists. Where are you staying in SF?

I stayed near where you're staying and had a great long run. You could take Market or Mission St to the Embarcadero. Then run along that to Fisherman's Warf. Once you get past the warf, you hook onto a long string of parks along the water. You could probably hook onto the Golden Gate Bridge if you wanted to. I think I only did about 10 miles and didn't make it to the bridge. It's all relatively flat.
You can run an out and back on the Embarcadero (it's about 5 miles from where Market meets the water to the Golden Gate Bridge) or go to Golden Gate park, which is slightly uphill from west to east but full of pretty trees and has tons of roads/bike paths/trails. You'd have to either cab or take Muni to get to the park, but it's way less crowded than the Embarcadero (running through the Fishermans wharf area SUCKS)
hahaha avoid hill...its San Francisco! It's my favorite place to run. No matter where I stay, I run to the Golden State Bridge and then struggle to find my way back. It's always the best adventure. I vote just run in the direction of the bridge...it is big, you will find it.
