We want to in our (small) yard. I am thinking an L shape, with the grill and refrigerator lined up against the house and the bar area, with a cocktail station, sink, and maybe keg, facing the yard, with bar stools.
Has anyone installed an outdoor kitchen?
Will you post pics?
How much did you spend?
Any hints or tips? Best brands? We need to have it custom built, right? We can't just do this with a prebuilt?
do you cook? if not, maybe skip the more kitcheny things and just make it a bar.
either way, you'll have to go custom. my friend has one. it's really nice (and her husband grills year round). i haven't asked how much it was, but she gets the crazy eyes when she talks about it, so i'm guessing it was expensive.

I have one. We have a gas grill, refrigerator, sink and a keg.
I have no idea how much it cost because FI did this before I met him.
If I were to do it I would flip it around so that when your sitting at the bar you faced out to the yard, not the house. I do think he did it that way because of the grill and the smoke would go away from the house.
ETA- also that little frig comes in handy. I store all the beer/wines out there.

I don't think you have to do custom. We've seen outdoor kitchen systems at Lowes. I haven't done one, but I would like to, so go ahead and figure this all out for me. Thanks.

OMG people - are we really getting into semantics here? Jesus.
elle, an outdoor "entertaining" area, not to be confused with "kitchen" sounds awesome. No idea on prices, but I would thinking plumbing is one of the more expensive parts of the process.

My life would be so great if I could just cook outside. Today. When it's literally 100 fucking degrees outside. Jesus Christ, why did I pick the flashy world of academia, again?
I will probably be of little help, because it's not really what you're looking for, but we did an outdoor grilling & bar area earlier this year. I wasn't completely sold on it because we live in the midwest and can't really use it year-round, but my H was convinced. Also, we don't cook all that much, so we decided against a complete kitchen. We essentially started from scratch and spent around $10K.
We had a deck and a lot of grass space to start-H dismantled the deck himself but we had a concrete company come out to do the rest. We had the company pour a stamped concrete patio, with a built-in firepit at one edge of the yard. We have the grill fairly close to the house built in to a long stone countertop. It stretches out into a bar that fits 4 barstools around it (I am still looking for bar stools that I actually like). We opted out of having seating built in (both around the bar and around the fire pit) because I thought it would be uncomfortable and I don't like the idea of the seats sitting in permanent spots, if that makes sense.
Still to come by the end of the summer is an eyebrow pergola to go over the bar itself and a ceiling fan. In a year or two, there is the potential to expand into more of true outdoor kitchen depending on how much we use the grilling station. If we did that, it would just be added onto the side of the yard, I guess.

I know it's been bashed here but we seriously use the Foreman grill SO MUCH in summer. B/c who the fuck wants to cook a real meal in this heat.
Thanks, ninjabridemom, I wish I had never seen those photos! That set-up is amazing.
PIZZA OVEN!!!
I never really had a desire to be rich before (to not stress at all about money, yeah, but not like rich) but now I want a house big enough to warrant an outdoor pizza oven lol.
