I take the gummy multivitamins, but nothing beyond that. I'm probably low in iron but haven't officially been tested. Despite years of trying I am never allowed to donate blood - not enough iron. I've spent months on supplements with diet changes and my count didn't go up so I just gave up and continued life as normal.
I worked at the Holiday Inn...clearly the smart didn't rub off on me!
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? A women's one a day multivitamin
Why? Couple reasons. 1. Extra calcium. 2. Just a little extra iron. 3. "Insurance policy" mentality.
What are the benefits and drawbacks? My nails are stronger And my iron count stays high enough to donate blood regularly.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? Kind of the opposite, I don't suggest taking anything more than a multivit (which won't have extreme amounts of anything) without checking with your doctor/having bloodwork done. You can overdose yourself, or be taking totally unnecessary and unhelpful supplements if you try to DIY.
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? I take a mutlivitamin on the recommendation of my doctor. I also take potassium and magnesium for leg cramping on the bike. I've found through years of experimentation that I cramp if I don't get enough K and Mg. The Mg also is supposed to help with migraines according to my neurologist (who is still waiting results from a study being conducted). I also take a probiotic to help w/my mild IBS.
Why? See above.
What are the benefits and drawbacks? No cramping, no real drawbacks except the $5/month they cost me.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? I recommend getting a full blood workup from your doctor to see if you are deficient in anything.
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? Not on the regular. I have glucosamine/chondrointon that I take when I remember. I only take vits when pg.
Why? When I take multivitamins, I get weird joint pain...like arthritis. I think I might be od-ing on something when I take them. I should play Dr. Google for that one.
What are the benefits and drawbacks? Uh...I don't know because I'm not regular about it. Thus, the poll.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? The only thing I can ever recommend is B12 and Unisom for morning sickness/nausea.
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? I take a multivitamin (sproadically), fish oil, folic acid and a probiotic.
Why? The multivitamin for overall health (though I am kind of bad about taking it regularly), fish oil to help combat high cholesterol, folic acid because I have a minor blood disorder, and probiotic because I have IBS.
What are the benefits and drawbacks? The fish oil helps with keeping my cholesterol down, the folic acid keeps my blood levels in check (unchecked my blood disorder can lead to kidney problems/failure), the probiotic helps keep my GI track happy, and I can't point to a specific benefit from the multivitamin.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? I am a Doctor!
I recommend figuring out what you need specifically (bloodwork) before you just start tossing down vitamins. I used to take a calcium + Vitamin D supplement, and then I realized I was getting plenty of calcium through my diet, and vitamin D through working out outside. So the supplement wasn't supplementing shit for me.
I used to take a multi when I remembered, but now I take nothing. Except maybe extra C if I'm sick, though at that point it probably doesn't help...
My iron levels were sometimes low in college (too many carbs & not enough meat I'll bet) but now I eat red meat regularly & my iron levels are excellent.
I do not take vitamin supplements because I eat an extremely nutrient-dense diet. I eat plenty of red meat so I don't need an iron supplement. Before I ate this way, I tried to take a multivitamin with iron and it made me violently ill.
I do (inconsistently) take a fish oil supplement for omega3. I do this because I don't like re-heating fish, so I mostly only eat it when we eat out. I think it helps me to recover more quickly from workouts. There are no drawbacks.
I don't recommend other people take supplements. You can get it from food.

I take a women's multi when I remember. I like that it has extra calcium and a little extra iron. I have a pretty healthy diet, but I figure it doesn't hurt to make sure I'm covered. I've had anemia in the past, but not currently.
I take a very minimal multivitamin- it doesn't have 5, 000 things in it like a lot of them. And it's not a giant horse pill! I also take a B complex- it helps with canker sores! Plus extra energy. And a vit D b/c my levels were low with that!!
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? I take a women's multi-vitamin and calcium+D every day.
Why? I don't know why I take the multi-vitamin, probably because my mom made me do it as a kid so I was just in the habit of doing that. I take the calcium+D because its good for my bones and stuff.
What are the benefits and drawbacks? It is hard to quantify the benefits of the multi-vitamin, I guess it is a "Why not?" kind of thing. I think the benefits of women taking calcium are pretty well established.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? Calcium+D!
I do take iron supplements but only when my levels are low. Even though I take a gentle iron, I find it hard on my stomach. I try to get my iron from food (non-fiber sources because fiber makes it hard to absorb the iron). I don't eat red meat in general but I will eat steak when I feel sluggish and liver when I feel very sluggish. Screw that 4 weeks to get better with supplement crap - ONE meal of liver and you can be a new person.
I do take a B vitamin regularly. If you are low on iron, you are most likely low on B as well. I dont know why, my B levels are just always low (maybe the lack of red meat).
I also take amino acids because they are good for recovery and again, because I dont eat red meat.
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular? multi, glucosamine, BCAA
Why? multi: I don't eat enough calcium, iron, folic acid. glucosamine: joint health BCAA: I read that it helps with recovery. I'm not sure I buy it.
What are the benefits and drawbacks? multi: has a lot of extra crap I don't need. glucosamine: it works BCAA: meh.
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take? calcium, D, folic acid. fish oil. glucosamine if you run.
I take a Women's One a Day and Fish oil. In the winter, I usually take a vitamin D supplement. I am taking a few other supplements for TTC (EPO, Vitex, extra folic acid).

I take a chewy multi, mainly for the folic acid (since "someday" I'll get KU) and B-12 (I'm primarily a vegetarian). I feel no real difference but mentally feel better about taking them than not.
I take glucosamine when my arthritis acts up. It does have a slight affect, I should take it all the time but it's huge and a PITA.
I take C in the winter (flu season) because I'm a little neurotic about getting sick, and I think I should probably take a b- complex but my multi seems sufficient I guess, since it does contain at least 50% of the DV of B2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12

I've been terrible about remembering, but typically I take a prenatal multi, fish oil, probiotics and Vit. D.
Prenatal Multi - per my doctor and prenatals are the only ones that don't make me nauseous. I am NOT TTC. Fish Oil - heart health, skin, good fats, etc Probiotics - because regularity. Also, I just feel better when I remember them Vit. D - I live in the Great North, so not a lot of sun. I know the jury is still out on it I think. I was recommended it at one time.
Benefits - I can tell i've been forgetting my vitamins lately. I just have more energy and focus when I remember. Maybe it's placebo, but whatevs.
Do you take any supplements or vitamins on the regular?
All liquid supplements: multivitamin, superfruit blend for alkalinity, amino acids, and organic crystallized sulfur (99.9%pure MSM)
What are the benefits and drawbacks?
drawbacks: they taste terrible benefits: all have very clear benefits for me personally. My multi makes a substantial difference in my energy level; super fruits help my skin (I'm super acne prone and break out if I miss it for a few days, like clockwork) and ease my menstrual symptoms; amino acids for recovery and protein processing; sulfur for joint pain (though it has numerous other benefits as well).
Even though you're not a doctor, you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so what is one thing you recommend others take?
I take a prenatal vitamin(b/c it has extra iron in it) and a B12 vitamin (b/c I eat a mostly vegan diet, about 85% of the time). My most recent physical showed I am anemic, which I have been most of my life, even when I was eating meat b/c I never ate a lot of meat and have always hated the taste of beef.
