It seems there are multiple people here who are hypothyroid, so maybe you can give me some insight or recommendations about my hair situation.
My hair is shedding really quickly, and it's lasted longer than it ever has in the past. My thyroid numbers are in the proper range, so I can't increase my levothyroxine dosage. I'm also having a problem with lots of fly away hairs from years of this shedding/regrowing cycle, and I have a ton of short hairs along my forehead and part. My hair texture is a mix of soft, normal hair and wiry, dry asshole hair. Apart from the thyroid texture issues, my hair is fine and wavy (2b to 2c).
If you made it this far, what shampoo and conditioners have helped your hair and not accelerated hair loss? Also, I think I need a good leave-in conditioner to get my dry, wiry hairs to behave. Please tell me what you use.
Hair loss, texture changes, and fly aways are the most obnoxious part of my hypothyroidism outside of the fatigue. It's gotten so much worse and I want to cry when trying to deal with my hair. The humidity isn't helping at all.
I lost probably about 1/3 to 1/2 of my hair when I was first diagnosed, and I still have bad flare-ups from time to time. Luckily, I had ridiculously thick hair prior to my illness, so it's still in okay shape. Like you, I do have many flyaways, though.
I haven't tried anything for re-growth. I do use Kerastase Elixir Ultime to make everything smoother. As I said, I still have quite a bit of hair but I was just thinking last week that I might start using Rogaine as a preventative measure in the next few years, especially if having a baby takes a big toll.
I tried Rogaine at one point and started feeling very dizzy.
I always had a ton of hair, even though the individual strands were fine. I'm probably down to 1/2 of my total thickness, but it's more noticeable in the very front.

I am wondering if my hair loss is related to a thyroid issue. I had no idea. I guess I thought it was normal. Now I feel dumb. What other symptoms did you have? But to your question I have been using Nioxin, and have been really happy.
Actually taking a Biotin supplement worked well for me. My hair is very similar to yours, if not identical. I switch shampoo and conditioner a lot between sulfate and non sulfate. I also do the no shampoo method in the cooler months.

my mom uses nioxin and is happy with it. it didn't work for me. i use samy fat hair (yet another shout out/thanks to gozf) and it's the only thing that actually gives my hair some volume to mitigate all the loss. my hair is super fine/soft and unless it's given some texture it is too much of a hassle to work with.

I was diagnosed at 16, so I don't really remember my symptoms in any great detail. I do know that when I have needed my levothyroxine bumped up that I feel fatigued, have more rapid hair loss, have less mental sharpness.
Which type of Nioxin are you using? I'm looking online and there's so many options.

I am using system 3, it is for color treated hair. I got it at Ulta...they have a little wheel that helps you find the best type. I bought a kit with shampoo, conditioner, and a scalp treatment.
