I thought that MapMyRun automatically tracks this for you, but when I installed it on my iPhone, I find the area where I can log the numbers but I'm looking for an app that I can turn on at the start of my run and can tell me my pace, my distance, etc throughout my run.
Does MapMyRun tell me this (aka am I missing something)?
Would the Nike+GPS app do this for me? If so, I am assuming I need to purchase the foot sensor? Do I also need to purchase the Nike+ sportsband too?
ETA: I am just reading up on Nike+ foot sensor... Where do you put the sensor? (The website says under the left foot sockliner?) I don't think I have Nike+ compatible shoes (I wear Asics).
My husband uses My Tracks and it tells you distance and pace. You can set it up so that a voice tells you at 1-mile increments your distance and pace. (The way it says it is "6 miles per hour" so you have to kind of do the math in your head.) But after your run it will give you can have the run info emailed to you which breaks it down by mile. Also cool: it will tell you your total time vs. moving time so if you stopped a couple of times you don't have to factor that in if you don't want to.

I'm assuming this is an app for iPhone, and as along as I run with my iPhone, it'll track it? Does it keep data stored for you in this app?
Ok, I can see how mapmyrun can measure distance, but can it measure pace?
I haven't played with it to reset the pace, but it tells me when I hit each mile and what my pace is. I can also go in after a workout and see distance, time and pace as well as the route on a map. I use that feature for biking, I use a treadmill for jogging.
I must be stupid b/c I don't know how to "track" it. I know how to log it after my run, but can you tell me what I need to do to "turn it on" at the beginning of my run so it can track my distance and pace? Do I need to create/set up a map first?
Is it smart enough to know when I'm walking vs. running?
Hi there! The Nike plus app ($1.99) allows you to track distance, time and calories. It also saves all the data, you just have to turn on your location services on the iphone before using. Or you can get the Nike plus sport band, get a sensor pouch from Dick's or Amazon to velcro to your shoes, (you won't feel it) and you're able to see real time data as you run and upload to your computer to track the data.

Thanks Jenn. Does it track your pace when you run vs walk?

Just to clarifythe Nike+ thing: there are 2 different apps. One is the Nike + GPS (the $1.99 one) which does not require a sensor. It tracks your distance and pace by GPS (obvs. ; ) ) You don't have the option to calibrate for run vs. walk. The other is Nike + iPod, which does use the sensor (I paid $17.99 as the app went along with it). The sensor uses an accelerometer to track the same things. That does give you the option to calibrate for both walk and run, which is more accurate since it works with your actual stride. I have to say though, Nike Running is going through a lot of changes to their site, and they have had some issues. Hopefully, in a few weeks things will be better, because it's a great site when it works. Although Nike insists that both apps have good accuracy, I don't agree. I needed to calibrate both the walk and the run, as they were both off by as much as .25/mile. The GPS app was also off by about .20/mile.

We both have Androids/Google phones and this app works with Google maps. So I'm not sure if it's available for an iPhone. Yes, it also stores the data for you and you can email it to yourself if you want to track it another way.
