I can't even believe I'm asking this, because up until a week ago, I wasn't even sure I wanted to run one marathon this year. I am training for MCM, which is in late October. It will be my 3rd marathon in 4 years. We are also planning to go down to Disney in January for the marathon weekend. I registered for the half, which is a completely doable distance, and I thought it wouldn't take too much out of me, so I could enjoy a family vacation.
Now a teeny voice in my head is wondering if I should transfer to the Disney full (which is 96% full, so I'd have to decide very soon) or even the Goofy. I'm pretty sure this is a bad idea. Please talk me out of it. We go down to Disney once a year (I have family nearby), so it's not like this is my only chance to run those races. FWIW I can get into a better corral for the half vs the full. I don't know what's gotten into me.
Do it. It's not like you will "run" the Disney marathon. It's a blast and worth doing just for fun and lots of pics.
As for the Goofy, I'm not going to tell you not to do it so I'll just leave it at that. ;-)
Didn't you run Goofy? Was it fun, or a special form of torture? Or both? Would you recommend it?
Yes, it was a blast and a special form of torture. I'd definitely do it again. It didn't really get bad until mile 20 which seems to be normal for marathons anyway.
Training was rough though. I won't do it the way I did it again. I think I'll try HH's plan if I ever get around to doing it again. Back-to-back long weekend runs are rough especially around Christmas. The only nice thing is you peak the weekend before Christmas which is the best present ever! lol
The closest I've ever done them is 8 months apart, but I'm getting ready to do two 4 weeks apart, soooo.....lol
Honestly, I think 3 months apart is harder than 1 because you have to keep it up for much longer. I think you absolutely CAN do it & should if you want to, but there's a good chance you'll be totally over any & all things running by the time Jan rolls around.
You're an animal!!! I love that you went from no marathons this year, to one marathon, to marathon + Goofy!
I say DO IT if you want, but I have the same thoughts as clseale. I think I could maintain for a month or 6 weeks, but by 3 months I think I would be worn the eff out. BUT, if you feel comfortable with it all, then I think you should get down with your bad self!

I think you're right, and I'm not going to want to keep up training at that level for 3 more months. If they were 6 weeks apart, I think it would actually be easier, because I could mostly rely on my MCM training and just cruise. Maybe I should run the half in January as a test to see if I want to run the Disney full or Goofy in 2015.
Well, my first (and only, so far) marathon was in 2003 and I'm thinking of doing another one in late fall, so 10 years?
Seriously, though, I think two marathons three months apart is perfectly sane. It's the people who try to run one every week that really seem to get injured.
