Do you carry your dogs during while you run? Obviously, a smaller dog. I remembered earlier today that when I was a teenager I had a neighbor who would go running with her chihuahua and she would carry the dog in one arm for the entire run. Every time she went running. Does anyone else do this?

I do run with my dogs but they are 55 & 63lbs so no way I could carry them. Plus that totally defeats the purpose of bringing them for exercise and to sniff and pee on all the things. Having something extra in your hand that's not really a need (phone/ipod/water bottle) would annoy me. I'm confused why anyone would do this.
If something happened (sore paw, too far, too hot) then yea, I can see that. But from the get go on every run? Um, no!
I still roll my eyes when people take their dogs for "walks" in strollers, although I can at least see that for older dogs - getting them outside when their health won't let them walk.

The last thing I'd want to carry while running would be something hot and fuzzy! I second the "in an emergency" comment, but I also run with dogs in the 50-60 lb range too. I would need serious motivation to carry them any distance!
I've ran with my chihuahua before but only for 1-1.5 miles during the colder months out of the year. I would never carry him unless I had to and then I would walk. What is the point of running while holding a dog? Poor dog gets all jostled around. WTH?
However a few years ago I went hiking with my dogs alone. My husky got raw paws and I tried to carry her back. Didn't work too well, because were coming down a mountain. But that's the only time I've attempted to and for good reason I felt like a bad pet mom that day!
Reminds me that there was this lady who used to put her dogs in a stroller and stroll them through the dog park. Whyyyy?
Also, Cal weighs 65 pounds and HE IS THE REASON I RUN IN THE FIRST PLACE. So he can blow off steam and stop bouncing off the walls. Why would I carry him?
I will admit that we have considered getting one of those bike trailers for our dog, but she is little and having her run alongside a bike is kind of unreasonable. However when it comes to hiking and walking--she's my little mountain climber! She's hiked miles and miles before--over big rocks, up big hills and done awesome. It's funny to see people's faces when they see a little schnauzer trooping up a mountain trail..beating some lab
I go trail running every weekend and one guy brings his little jack russel with him every week. She kills it.
I was just curious if anyone else did it. I always thought she was a little crazy. I don't have a dog right now but when I did she weighed over 100 lbs so there is no way that I could have carried her. It funny because even though she was huge she thought she was a lap dog and would always come over and try to sit on my lap.
