My friend had this vintage kitchen stool she got from her MIL. Looked exactly like this:
Then she left it outside her back door for 2 years and it looked like this (but worse):
She gave it to me and H is sandblasting it so I can repaint and we'll get new vinyl for the seat and back.
Thoughts on color(s) that would look good, but not too retro? The metal parts will not be chrome anymore and need to be painted. I was thinking of a monochromatic look or two-tone like turquoise vinyl and darker blue legs.
I have a pretty wide range of colors that I use in my house so a lot could go.
I like 315s idea. The ones around here are most often white and I really like the way it looks. It's like retro, classy, statement piece, blends in usefully all rolled into one that way.
My mom had one that was yellow. I spent many hours sitting on that stool keeping my mom company when I was little. I don't love yellow, but every time I see the yellow stools I feel nostalgic.
I just bought one in white for my studio, but if I had the chance to do anything that I wanted to one, I would be going for croc embossed vinyl, probably in copper, silver, or olive, but maybe a fun color like turquoise...with the metal parts in something complementary. Now I am thinking of fun things that I can do to my white one.lol
I would do a navy blue. I think it would suit your style and fit the modern vintage style. It will look great with your kitchen if you are still going for the same look I remember you posting - white cabinets, brushed brass hardware, right?
Add me to the list of grammy nostalgia. mine had a yellow one too.
Yes, you are remembering the kitchen plan. I do love navy accents Would you do navy on navy or navy and another color/shade?
I'm feeling into the suggestions for various blues the most so far. Though the suggestion of orange is also intriguing.
One friend redid one to have ORB metal and hunter green vinyl seats. It matched her kitchen. Another friend did one with satin nickel and bright turquoise vinyl seats. It matched her kitchen. The ORB and satin nickel were a metallic finish spray paint.
I'd probably see what off-the-shelf metal spraypaint you can find in dark blue, and find vinyl in a slightly different shade of blue to match. I like the idea of cobalt and navy. I don't think I'd like a big a contrast as navy and teal.

Mine is pale yellow, with white legs. Pretty sure it was the original finish. Love those stools. My mom had one she used when she cut our hair. She said I could have had hers when she saw I bought one but hers has paint splatters on it and honestly I don't think she would have really given it up.

Now that you mention it, my white stool has white legs, and I thought my mother's yellow stool had white legs too. Or maybe they were yellow. I am pretty sure they were painted, but I just don't see white legs in my memories.
