Hi there! I'm a newbie from California with a question I was hoping you could help with.
I don't live abroad but will be travelling quite a bit for a new job, and am getting ready for a week and a half trip in July to Madrid, Granada, and Seville. I will need to be dressed "business casual" the entire time and much of our time will be spent walking outside and touring these cities, and know that it is going to be HOT!
Does anyone have any recommendations for what kind of clothing will allow me to best fit in and stay as comfortable as possible? I'm thinking light colored pants, dressy short-sleeved shirts, and maybe a few knee length or just below the knee skirts?
What you mentioned sounds fine to me. I would definitely go with more skirts than pants. Because I have been to Granada in the heat of summer and holy hell is it HOT. I wouldn't have survived without being in a dress (granted, I was 7 months pregnant at the time so that influences it).
Check out the styles elenetxu put up, but I think business casual in Spain is similar to the US. I think you would be fine with knee length, but if you're worried you can do below the knee skirts.
Drink lots of water, wear deoderant, and have fun!

It's really hard to look like you belong from somewhere. You will probably look like you aren't from there. The trick is to look not from there but still stylish Consider the fact that Europe in general is more monochromatic or flashy in colour palette.
Although I would like someone to explain how, with the horrible heat, people are still wearing boots with skirts in the street. It's making me shake my head right now.
Thanks for all the help, ladies! Skirts, dresses and linen pants it is. I'll be keeping a look out for the nylons with shorts look, but will definitely be skipping that as part of my warddrobe.
I'm a dirty hippie and hate tights and nylons. I think there was gossip at my wedding because I chose not to wear white nylons under my big hot dress. I will not be joining the shorts/nylons trend any time soon.
