DS is in what is supposed to be one of the best daycare centers in our neighborhood. It's the newest of four centers owned by the same person (all within the city).
When he started, we sent breakfast and they provided lunch and two snacks through a catering company. Two weeks later, they announced they had hired an in-house cook and that person would make breakfast as well.
So almost 2 months ago, the director of that center location resigns rather abruptly for health reasons. We liked her a lot and were sad to see her go. And it feels like the center has gone downhill since -- poor communication, little structure and stability for the kids, etc.
So the new director sends an email with new schedules for each class. Morning circle time, outdoor play, art time, sounds great. Except, nothing about breakfast. I email her to ask if it's still being served, and she writes back, "Sorry "
Um sorry as in, no it's not served, or, sorry I forgot to put it on the schedule?
Email back for clarification and she says she was unaware it was ever served to the kids.
Um, what? So, DS has been going without breakfast for 7 weeks??
I don't mind feeding him before we leave, or packing food to send, but I need to know he's not getting it there!
DD doesn't get "breakfast" but they do get a "morning snack" about 8:45am which can be cheerios with milk or waffles, for example. Her tack aside, I wonder if that's where the issue is? They do serve something before lunch but it's not "breakfast"?

Yes, but the email we received back in April specifically referenced breakfast, A.M. snack, lunch, and P.M. snack.

I would forward that email to her and say "I would like to discuss this at pickup. What time works for you?"
well, i write forceful letters and emails for a living, so i'd be writing back with specific notations to the times when breakfast was promised, attach those emails, request a more through response, and let her know that i'll be by at time X to discuss it further. i'd also point out that her response raises concerns about both professionalism and continuity of care given the unfortunate, recent, abrupt resignation of a beloved director.

I just logged in to the webcam. Saw 3 toddlers running around. Saw one, not mine, climb a shelving unit as tall as he was and atand up on top. He was up there a good 30 seconds before a teacher ran into the room and grabbed him.
Now, another teacher could have been in the room but out of view of the camera but If so, he or she wasn't watching the kids.
Also, FI tells me they no longer have a sign-in/sign-out system because the new director "doesn't know how to use it." So in the event of an emergency, they have no way of knowing if all the kids aee accounted for.

This is unacceptable. No way in hell should the children not be signed in/out. That is a HUGE safety violation. I would be contacting your state licensing bureau and filing a complaint asap. Also, I'd be scoping out new daycares.

You need to call your state licensing agency (CPS/DFS/ect) and make a report. Lack of supervision and lack of accounting for who is in care (signing in) are violations. Not feeding your child when they said they would is probably one as well. Your call should be anonymous. I know when my center was reported we did not find out who made the allegations.

Time for a new daycare.
All of this. Get thyself a new daycare STAT. My oldest DD's daycare had the old director resign and shit went down hill pretty quick. I was so glad to be done with that place.
These are the meals outlined in the handbook, which was the case when we enrolled him in the daycare. We weren't given an updated handbook when they supposedly started offering breakfast.

So, came home to discuss today's events with FI.
He tells me about some occurrences that he noticed that he didn't like, but had chalked them up to him being "paranoid and too nitpicky."
1) Goes to pick DS up at the end of the day. All of the children are in the indoor gym area with maybe 3 teachers. One of the teachers had his iPod on.
2) Drops Liam off in the morning. Same teacher has 4 or 5 kids gathered around a laptop, showing them a movie (an age-appropriate movie). One or two kids wander off to play with the toys on the shelves. Staff member yells at the kids to leave the toys alone.
I also called my mother, regarding one day when she picked DS up from daycare. Part of their safety protocol is to have a list of approved adults (non-parents) for pick-up. In addition to showing ID, they're supposed to know a "safety word." They never asked my mom for her ID or the safety word.
I've already emailed one friend for a daycare rec, and posted in a local parents' group for new recommendations.
