My third and last (of the season!!) triathlon is on Sunday. It's a sprint, but a short swim only 400m. Since my last tri a month ago I have swam exactly 3 times.
Sometime last week I busted up my shoulder, I think it's swelling where some muscle meets the spine/shoulder blade. It's better than it was last week today, and I did my lunch workout with very little pain but it's tensing up again. It hurts most actually when I turn my neck to the right.
I would like to have swam a few more times before this race. I know I can cover the distance but it may be challenging having not gotten much time in the water. I'm not sure about wetsuits yet, it's in a quarry and I think those run really cold? I might be able to wear it. If I can, I have no fear of the swim at all. If I can't, I'm a little nervous.
I can probably get in 2 swims this week - but is it better to rest my shoulder instead?
Hmmm... If it was me, I would probably do the race. Then, if the shoulder doesn't seem to be getting better, head to the doctor.
Would you rest between now and then?
Yes! No swimming until the race. I had a (slightly) torn rotator cuff and bicep tendon a few years ago. I only swam in races. I understand you are not really comfortable with swimming, but you know you can do it, so you don't really need the time in the water at this point.
