Because I LOVE seeing other people's kitchens for one, but also I have a question about mine. Does anyone have any recs for a prettier/more colorful shade or window covering for the windows above the sink (or do you like what is there?) They are bamboo shades that came with the house and I have seen some pretty patterned/colorful shades in other kitchens that I loved, but didn't know if it would work here. WDYT?
Your kitchen is totally neutral, so if you wanted to do something fun like a patterned fabric roman shade, you definitely could. You'd need to have some thing(s) else in the room to coordinate though so it doesn't look random. Something(s) on the wall(s), towels, that sort of thing. It's fine as it is, too.
Mine is also pretty neutral, and I have a bamboo roman shade too. This is my 80's kitchen halfway-update, until we can gut it and really do it up.
Open floor plan - Main kitchen area in 1st pic. Partial pic of pantry, which is on the left of the kitchen, and a pic of the informal dining area on the right.
We use the kitchen island extension for our casual daily dining, and the informal dining room as our "formal" area.
I like having them all done so I can catalog them, if you will, because MH was so dead set on just doing half the kitchen then doing the rest later--half 2012/13, half 1954. Yes, that has been my hell. Here are some befores:
Oh, I liked the stained glass piece idea that pp posted above! We have a pretty small window above the sink and I wasn't sure what to put up there. Now I have an idea thanks to you ladies!
Here's our kitchen. We need to paint the walls and I'm looking into a green grey or blue grey shade. Also, I really want to paint the cabinets white.
These pics are from inspection (aka seller's stuff). Our kitchen table that we ordered back in May still hasn't arrived yet but it's the same size as the one in the pic, just a darker wood.

Can you post a picture of your drawer / cabinet hardware? Your cabinets look similar to mine and I like the look.
emjacobs, I don't have a close up pic with me but will post when I get home tonight.
nursecramer, I didn't even consider that since I like them as is, but that is definitely an option so thank you!
FWIW, a friend used Paint to help me visualize white cabinets better. I like how it brightens the room, but I know the paint on the walls is so flat and neutral that it makes the whole kitchen seem dull.
I love nice blast of color in the kitchen and since yours is so neutral, I would definitely switch out the bamboo. We have a valance over the window that matches the rug under the table
Here is my kitchen currently, lol I'm all for a bit of color in the kitchen too. I'll update with a much PRETTIER photo as we progress: Attachment Deleted
we just finished this one side of our galley kitchen (the other side still needs a backsplash).
I like bamboo shades. I have been trying to figure out the same thing, and was torn between a bamboo shade or something fabric. I decided to go with a white linen roman shade.

Here's our kitchen prior to moving in. We had the opportunity to get in before closing to paint so we painted the kitchen a cheery yellow.
Since then we've changed out the hardware, put a chalkboard on the door that's facing you in the photo, and added a buffet as well as some other little things. I wish I had a current photo on my work computer.
What about doing a valence or roman shade over your window bringing in the teal color from your rug?

Hey there! I took some pics last night, hopefully these show up well.
