We're closing on our new home on the 29th (fingers crossed anyway, I'm having last minute paranoia about it...) This will be our new master bath. I'm conflicted about this room, I like the black granite but I don't think it goes with the tile. Replacing the counters will not be in the budget right now anyway. The cabinets don't go with the tile either but I'm willing to paint them or whatever. Any ideas for tying in the cabinets, granite, and tiles? Of course we can paint the walls, I think the light fixtures need to go, and the sellers have jacked the mirrors so we'll need new ones (apparently they weren't "attached" to the wall and therefore free game. I sort of hate these people but that's another story...)

Hmm... I'd do art over the tub with thick black frames, but I think the mirrors' frames should be a little thinner/ less visually heavy considering they're right over those counters. I'd probably paint the room a warmer, more neutral color if you're keeping those vanities as-is. I actually like the wall color, but would paint those vanities white/cream (depending on what looks best next to that tile)
The countertops are black which is a neutral. And you said they are granite? Why would you even consider changing that? The tile looks beige/tan, which is another neutral. Personally I think they look fine together.
If it were me, I would paint the vanities white to go with the white trim and the tub. Also a neutral, but I think bringing that in would help tie things together more. Also, I'm would consider painting the mirror frames white, but would probably test it to see if I would prefer them white or black.
I like the paint color, but if you still have questions about the black granite and the beige tile, paint the walls a greige and bring in color with your accessories.
The black just seems very heavy to me, very masculine. I'd prefer more of a light and airy feel. But like I said, DH loves them and they are granite so there's no real need to replace them. I think just getting the cabinets painted will make them feel less heavy. I actually like the wall color too, it just seems odd with the warm cabinet color.

I agree. It looks dated / generic for my taste. I wonder if you can remoe them without breaking them and resell them? I don't mind the wall color but if you paint the cabinets it might look off. White might be too contrasty.
I don't mind the black granite with the tile at all. The tile is super neutral.
I don't think it's the granite that is making it look masculine so much as the granite and the cabinets together. That combo always screams "bachelor condo" to me.
I'd demasculanize it by painting the cabinets white and switching out the hardware to something silver/nickel, either brushed or polished depending on the light fixtures/faucets. I'd also add mirrors with silver frames. It will dress it up without standing out since the silver will blend with the mirror itself.
I like the paint color and I'd leave it alone if it's in good shape.
Do you prefer warm or cool colors in a bathroom? If cool, I would leave the walls as they are (but I just really like that color) and paint the cabs a crisp white. If you prefer warm, I would go with a warm neutral color, still paint the cabs white, and use something bright for bathmat and towels for little pop of color.
At first I was going to agree with painting the cabs something fun, like a light turquoise, but when I thought about it, I don't know that a fun color would look great with the counters and white would give it more of a classic feel, at least until you can change the counters, if you choose to.
If you paint the cabinets, you'll need to be VERY careful when choosing your color. The tile has its own undertones, so you need to choose a white that works with it. Go to the store and grab a million white paint chips - you'll see their undertones when you're sitting in there next to the tile.

This. The other option for the mirrors though would be frameless mirrors, but it depends on what you like.

You stole the words right out of my mouth. I think if you switch up those cabinets it will make a world of difference.

Damn, I was thinking I'd just match the white paint to the trim. So is it ok to have the white trim be a different color white from the cabinets? I wish I knew how to photoshop so I could do a mock-up.
Do we all agree that the cabinets need to be painted then? DH is going to tell me no so I need you all to back me up
I'm the odd one out here, but I don't see anything bad about the floor/tile/counter combo at all.
It's a bit generic, but I like it.
I honestly think it's the paint color. It just doesn't mesh with the room nor does it blend anything together. I'd pick something gray or at least darker and see if that helps before you do anything too drastic.
