First time posting here and I hope someone can share suggestions. We are recolating and have two LO's.
Given that workplace is right downtown, in terms of traffic, would it be best to live west (areas of Windermere and Winter Garden zoned for A schools) or east (areas near Avalon, Stoneybrook east)? I have spent a lot of time researching schools and there are a few great schools to choose from either east or west. My fear is to be on the road well over an hour. I am often looking at the FL 511 cameras during rush hour but I want to get an idea from residents since the cameras and maps do not show the arterials.
I don't know if any of us will be much help. I live in Titusville, south of ORL, everyone else here is West Coast. Traffic in Orlando is just like traffic in any big city, though. Where are you relocating from?

Thanks!
I am from Orlando but currently live in Texas. If you are going to be working downtown I would suggest looking into the historic area of downtown Orlando, College Park, Winter Park or even Baldwin Park. My H is from Windermere and while the area is SUPER nice, it's a pain to get to and from. The traffic on 50 and Conroy Road are a total bitch. My parents live in Downtown and to visit my inlaws it can take 45 minutes to get to Windermere (and Winter Garden is even further!). But if it's not during rush hour you can get to Windermere from Downtown in about 25 mins on the 408.
I wouldn't move over the the East side either. Traffic is HORRIBLE over my Waterford Lakes. It's a big effin' mess. It seems that the East side and the West side of Orlando grew at such a fast pace the roads are not large enough to accommodate the busy traffic.
Also, I would try not to have I-4 be part of your work route. Traffic can be unpredictable and rush hour is hectic.
But my brother lives in Groveland (which is a bit further west than Winter Garden) and he travels to Lockheed Martin every day off Sandlake Road. He said by taking the Turnpike the traffic isn't too bad and it's a stress free 45 minutes for him to work every day.
