I got the Mia and started using it in April. I really expected to love it since everyone raves about the Clarisonic, but honestly I see absolutely no difference in my skin even after using it for two months. I did have a really good routine already, though, and it included plenty of exfoliation, as I use Retin-A and already washed with a sensitive Buff Puff. I suspect that it makes a more drastic improvement for people who are not already exfoliating very well and on a regular basis.
The only noticeable positive for me is that the Mia is able to wash my face in just one minute, while when I was washing with a Buff Puff, I spent a good three or four minutes going in gentle circles over my skin. The fast sonic movement is able to get your skin very clean very quickly.
If you do want to try a Clarisonic, I definitely recommend getting the Mia. The brush and sonic movement are exactly the same as the more expensive models. The main difference is that other models beep when you are supposed to move to a different part of your face (unnecessary, in my opinion) and I know one of the models has a different brush you can attach to use on the body.
I had the pro version. It didn't do anything special to my skin. I expected to love it, since everybody raves, but I was disappointed. I ended up selling it on CL.
I get much better results from exfoliating washes, like the Suki sugar scrub & Philosophy Microdelivery exfoliating face wash.

I've been thinking about getting the Mia or something similar. If I use Retin A, will this eat my skin off entirely? I manage the sensitivity well now, but it's a fine line between normal face and leprosy face.

I used it with Atralin (a version of retin-a). I'd use the sensitive brush head & maybe only use it every other day.

I use Retin-A and the sensitive brush with the Clarisonic daily. I have no issues.
I've had both a clarisonic (mia) and a pretika. They work the same but the clarisonic was much more gentle. However, it wasn't worth the extra money to me and my skin was still meh so I returned it to Sephora and got the pretika for $40. But I never use it.
Like Kore, I also prefer using gentle scrubs like Origins modern friction or Suki Exfoliating scrub instead.
I agree that what you already do probably largely influences it, but for me, nothing else replicates the clean (but not dry) and smooth feeling when I use it. Now, do I use it as often as I should, probably not. Because I'm on retina, I don't really need to.
However, the mia is definitely plenty (they are really identical, and none of the "extra" features are worth it). Its a lot nicer to skin then the knock off versions, if you will, but that may depend on your skin sensitivity.
I got my Clarisonic almost 3 years ago when they were first popular. It had truly made a world of difference in my skin's tone and texture. I have hardly any breakouts and my pores are smaller and less "gunked up" than they used to be. Well worth the money, IMO.
And to the PP who mentioned the Olay tool, that's not even in the same category. The Clarisonic uses much more advanced technology - same as the Sonicare toothbrushes. There's no way that Olay could offer that type of product for what, $30-40?
