I'm only one week two, but have taken my dog with me on runs. He does pretty well. He really is just walking a little faster. More like a trot. He likes it, and is pretty tuckered out when we finish.

I think the first four weeks or so will be okay. I may get a little more concerned with the later weeks when you're running for longer, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

orangeblossom She does pretty well when I'm running, stays by my side and does trot more than anything. But that's probably because I'm doing the same thing.
She really does have a lot of energy. She is in day camp and when she gets home she can chase the cat like she'd been sleeping all day!

LOL about trotting. I feel the same way. I think sometimes my dog is thinking I wish she'd run a little faster, so I can get my real run on.
That's a lot of energy to burn at 7yo after spending all day at day camp.

I run with my 6yo border collie mix. I slowly built her up using C25K and she's gotten up to about 6miles with me. This summer she's been tired on our longer runs (even though we have been going out at dawn it has still been humid) so I limit her to 4-5 miles. She does flyball, disc and dock diving so she was in pretty good shape when we started but she has never had much endurance.
And we've done a 5K together It was a pet friendly race for a local rescue and she had a blast lol.
I did start the program alone just to make sure I focused on me instead of training her. Then once I felt more comfortable running and had to take a break for my knee I went back and added her in slowly using c25K. Now she runs with me about 3-4 days a week and I'm training for my 1st half marathon.
As long as you build them up to that distance and there are no health issues that might interfere (ie hip issues) you should be OK. Our husky is 6 and we run with her and our other 2 all the time. I just took her 7 miles the other day and she was a trooper. At her age though, that's the farthest I'd take her. On average we run between 1-4 miles a couple times a week.
We participate in a dog centered 5.5 mile race every year. Our dogs absolutely love it. They get to run, be around other dogs, and they get spoiled with toys/treats gallore that day
We started running with them because sometimes its the only way to get energy out of them. I took our German shepherd 8 miles the other day. He came home napped and would have gladly gone out again about an hour later. He's 5 and still has the energy of a puppy most days.
